Emirates cabin crew raped in Emirates accommodation?

Another disturbing news coming from Emirates Airline about the treatment of female staff specifically.

Apparently one Serbian girl came to Dubai to work as a cabin crew for Emirates Airline recently. She was followed by the rapist and was raped in her apartment in Emirates accommodation just 8 hours after she arrived in Dubai!

Every Emirates accommodation building has a security. Ground staff accommodation has one security person in every building. Every visitor must call the person they are visiting to come down and confirm the visit to the security.

Every Emirates accommodation for cabin crew has wider security and cameras in the halls.

During every visit (even to your colleague in another building) you have to leave your staff number and to sign in and sign out your visit. Visitors are not allowed to stay after 1:00 AM without a permission. Visitors who are allowed to stay over night can not be of opposite sex, and for female ground staff they can only be their mothers and sisters. Male ground staff are allowed to accept their fathers and brothers for an overnight stay.

All Emirates staff pay for their accommodation and it’s not free of charge. So, even if staff pay for the accommodation they still have harsh restrictions regarding visits to their apartments.

Considering all of this it is just unbelievable that someone managed to pass all of the security check points and to rape a girl in her own apartment!

What shocks even more is the fact that this girl was, apparently, blamed for being raped (?!).

It is a known fact that Emirates Airline managers do not care about their staff’s well-being and safety, pushing them to work and fly well beyond physical and mental boundaries and against all legal frames. But this case just raises the issue of EK staff’s safety to another, completely scandalous level.

This is the message which I have got today from one EK cabin crew:

Message from cabin crew about the raping

Message from cabin crew about the raping

I want to ask u as well if u know this sad fact happened on 26th of january,1 serbian girl came to dubai to be emirates cabin crew and was alocated in razooki bldg, al nahda. After 8 hours she arrived in dxb, 1 nigerian guy entered her bldg because the security was not at reception and followed her, entered her apt and raped her. The guy run away from the entrance of the bldg with the security already there, and afyer few minutes the girl appeared on the video shaking and crying… police was called but if course nobody knows who is the guy and the girl was told that “if she was raped, is because she was probably provocative to the guy and it’s not his fault” bla bla bla all same bullshit of dubai xxx.

Do u know anything about it? Im trying to find out with friends living in the bldg… one of the questions xxx, how come for our family to come into dubai they need so many papers, authorizations, visa andnfor anyone to enter the bldg innemirates accommodation and rape our colleagues is so easy??? Hiw mr. Terry daily and emirates expect us to be motivated to work if we know we can be the next victim of horrible crimes like this?

Update:

Hi Dragana! Thx for ur answer, this story is true cause i askes  xxx I asked s9me of my friends living there and on the bldg next door, kalifa, and they told me there was lots of police cars there on this night and all of them said is true story. I wanna find out who she is but they said shes back in serbia already.

Disclaimer:

As usual, this blog’s author is trying to double check all the information that she is getting. Nevertheless, Emirates Airline tends to cover up and hide these sort of incidents and they don’t want to talk to me, so I have no choice than to publish the news and ask Emirates Airline to deny it. If they have the proof that it didn’t happen I will delete the article and apologize.

Not sure about the story, but I don’t pay for my accommodation and I don’t pay DEWA. If you mean we “pay” in the sense that people get living out allowance if they move out then yes, we sort of get a salary deduction and thus ‘pay’.. But this “free” accommodation has its own issues. I have been living in a moldy apartment for 3 years. They always send me someone who “fixes it” and refuse to move me elsewhere. Even thinking about it makes me feel tired of fighting with them.

Yes, xyz, staff gets accommodation allowance if living outside. The same amount is taken from their salary when they live in EK accommodation. So they actually pay for it.:) Ground staff pays additional 380 AED for a separate room in the apartment.

OMG! Seriously! Similar thing happened at the ground staff accomodation in Al Qouz. My friend is sharing accomodation with 2 other girls in EK al qouz accomodation and a thief entered her appartment while they were sleeping but sge heard strange noises coming from the living room so she went to check and was surprised a south asian man is standing in the middle of the house and packing things to be stolen! He tried to escape and she ran after him until the security point where the security personnel stopped him and asked her to go check if she’s missing something! He could search him instead but the reason why he asked her to go check is because he wanted to let the thief go and that’s what exactly happened, when she went down again to say nothing is missing she found out the thief is gone and the security told her no need to report the incident then!

Security let him go because they didn’t want to lose their job.

Well, my friend went to log the incident at the main security office and all they did was to change the security man. No police involved, no camera check. So the thief will remain free and next time he’ll make sure to plan the theft well. This is rediculous! How can this happen in Dubai! Complete ignorance from EK because last thing they care about is their replaceable staff. What if the guy was another rapist?

Regarding the question of accomodation cost, starting from 2015 we pay additionally 425 aed for single room in Al Quoz accomodation. Before it was 380, now they increased. The rest (around 1700 aed) is deducted from our salary. They increase the prices but living conditions don’t respond to money we pay for it.

Actually we are allowed to have both female and male visitors to stay after 1, if they are crew. And for others we need to fill the visitors form

What can I do? Not everybody will always like me.

This blog has the aim to allow Emirates employees freedom of speech. For me it’s enough to have their real names and sometimes documents in order to check their identity and publish their stories.

You are very right. I am doing this so that some people do not forget me in the same way they forgot my EOSB.

      Kind regards,
      Dragana

Okay so a few things that are not true here:
First of all: we do NOT pay for accommodation
Second: opposite sex visitors ARE allowed
Not sure where u get the India but not right at all 😉

Ana, you DO pay for accommodation. It is covered out of the long hours you work. You also pay a tribute to Dubai Government by paying for DEWA and DU/Etisalat. The reason they don’t charge you for accommodation is so they can pay you less in your EOSB when you leave. They can also monitor you, see who visits you and make sure you get to work when they say so. As you know they change the rules to not giving out the accommodation allowance to eligible staff when it suits them. Last time they opened the allowance, they tried to kick a load of eligible cc out before the announcement of Expo 2020 as EK didn’t want to rent more expensive buildings. The company do everything to screw you.

They do charge. You have accommodation allowance and it goes into your salary. So, for example, if you are an expatriate you get the accommodation allowance, but if you have where to stay in Dubai and you don’t need Emirates accommodation, you get that allowance for yourself. I met many people living like this.

Also, if you want a single room when working for ground staff, you have to pay 380 AED from your basic salary. It’s well paid, indeed.

i am also upset with ek management. so upset that i have resigned. but this story doesn’t seem to be entirely true. i flew with a male cabin crew who actually went to irish village with that girl and his friends on that day. he left first and called her the next day to see how things were going since she was new. she told him that she “almost” got raped. so apparently she wasn’t raped but it was horrifying that an outsider could enter the building. it’s unfair to hold this against the company. it was sheer negligence from the guard on duty that night

Seriously??? You don’t even know the person who tried raping you, how do you know he’s a Nigerian?
Please get your facts right girl.
I can’t help but wonder too, why he chose you of, all the ladies in that building, to rape.. just thinking

You sure sound like a rapist!
What exactly do you mean by this: “Why he chose you of all the ladies in the building”?
Was she maybe provocative in your rapist mind? Rape has no justification!!!
She could of walk around naked as far as I’m concerned, but even then, no one is allowed to touch or hurt her!
My god, we live in a world full of imbeciles!

I’m a former resident of Dubai. Let me start in all fairness by saying, that Dubai is a very safe place and the law does not tolerate harrasment. However, the law is different (or non existent) for the ruling family and anyone closely associated to them. I know from my time there, that Emirates air hostesses specifically were seen as a ‘prize’ by the men in establishment and senior executives. If they did not comply with advances, they were subject to career consequences and losing their job. Recently the ‘Minister of Tolerance’ was accused by a foreign worker of attempted rape and in spite of international coverage on the incident, nothing was done. Overall safe place, but women should expect harrassment in the work place, which is very sad.
