Emirates Pilots

Since Emirates Illuminati website is blocked as “inappropriate” in United Arab Emirates, I have decided to publish their news on my blog.

As they clearly state on their website, they are not a union nor they are striking. They are not writing against UAE, its laws or any respected member of a royal family. This is why I think that blocking of their website is not justified in any way.

Please note that I have no contact with members of this secret society of Emirates Airline employees. I am dedicating this page to them as an act of solidarity and promoting democratic, open and honest discussion between Emirates Airline employees and their management.

ABOUT US

Who are we?

Founded in 2013, we are a secret society of an undisclosed number of Emirates Airline employees and affiliated sympathizers who, despite being passionate about our jobs, share the same revolt against unnecessarily vile and appalling management.

We are an organized resistance against managerial oppression, malpractice, malfeasance, one-sidedness and unjustness; we are an underground network of alike-minded people who are resolute in actively fighting against the prevalent fear culture deliberately implemented and nurtured by this airline.

We have now reached our critical mass and time has come to come into the open.

There is a widespread and consensual discontent regarding the way this nonetheless brilliant airline is managed in terms of human resources, where the adjective “human” is too often forgotten, and never humane.

Of course, making profitable business is a driving objective that we share. But it should not be to the detriment of the welfare and the lives of its defenceless employees, sometimes utterly and unfairly shattered.

People are infantized, like kids in kindergarten, instead of being treated like professionals and peers, instead of promoting their dedication, qualities, talents and ambitions.

Genuine and petty mistakes are heavily punished. Unfair sanctions are distributed. No real defence system is available to claimants. No management level will ever acknowledge their own mistakes nor overrule an a posteriori unfair decision.

Pinnacle of disgrace: even people who get sick, although certified by an Emirates medical doctor, get sanctioned for lack of productivity; with the perverse side effect of pushing crew unfit for duty to fly anyway, out of fear, to the obvious detriment of safety.
Whenever convenient for management to achieve at all costs their operational goals and profits, legal rules are twisted, when not altogether overlooked; but failure by employees to comply with their torturous interpretations is heavily punished.

Bitterness and de-motivation are pandemic.

The ambient morale has reached the point where some of us would actually not be surprised if one day some desperate employee hijacked an Emirates airplane to crash it onto its headquarters!

We are appalled to see such a marvellous entrepreneurial machine as Emirates being wasted, and its even bigger profit potential being undermined by this counter-productive management approach: people would work better within a relaxed, trustful and motivating atmosphere, and with a supportive management.

Emirates could be the best airline in the world to work with, if only a fairer, healthier, and a genuine employee welfare-oriented mindset was implemented and enforced. And this would not take much effort.
Boni pastoris est tondere pecus, non deglubere.

Instead, behind the glamorous façade of propaganda, some people are either living in fear or in hellish working conditions, when not unfairly punished, being “resigned” or terminated.
Greedy profit prospects gradually take over common-sense safety practices, always pushing further the boundaries of safe operations (particularly in terms of workload, timings and fatigue), with total impunity.
And this hard-earned profit is not even shared in a fairly fashion, thus exacerbating the ubiquitous feeling of inequity.

We are the vigilantes opposing this status quo.

We are the whistle-blowers breaking the Omertà and we will ensure that any systemic or intentional malfeasance from Emirates management will be publicly advertised to the whole world.

Just like in the Middle-Ages, when persecuted intellectuals were drawn into anonymity and clandestineness by an almighty Inquisition and obscurantism, we are in the very same configuration today with the Emirates management.

We are resourceful and imaginative. We have developed an arsenal of diverse expedients that can now be readily launched at will, in response to managerial misconducts.
Rest also assured that we have built strong safeguards and firewalls against the witch-hunt that will likely follow our inception, and deployed enough decoys to elude future attempts to chase and silence us.

We are the Emirates Illuminati.

What are we not?

Conjuntis viribus, but we are not a Union. We are a subversive brotherhood.

The intrinsic fabric of the socio-political system of the Gulf countries prevents from any practical constitution of unions or similar entities. Their very existence (or embryo thereof) is threatened by legal punishments or managerial reprisals, making them totally useless, when not nipped in the bud. Hence we found our constituent body a more efficient tool to balance abusive power and carry out corrective actions.

Thus, just like Emirates management experiences no hindrance exploiting the weaknesses of its workforce by lack of counterbalancing power, and as a clandestine organization, we are not bounded by any legal limit in our undertakings.

We are not a democracy. Our inner organizational structure and hierarchy, the mechanism of its memberships, as well as the identity of its members, are kept secret for obvious safety reasons.

We are not cranks. We are not eccentric people. We are educated and intelligent fellows. We are definitely not people one should underestimate or not take seriously, neither by size nor by resolution.

We will not stay shut and passive.

We are not in a rush. Patience pays. Our actions are not impulsive. Rather, they are thoroughly thought, carefully planned and deliberate.

We are not terrorists. Yet, one shall not assume that we will not use whatever means are necessary to bolster our cause. Dire times call for dire measures.

Our first action

We are beginning, for our public emergence, with a first wave of distribution of formal Warning letters to managers. They carry a very symbolic significance, since our management is always so prone and prompt in issuing those, too often disproportionately and for fallacious or unfair reasons.

Those Warning letters are hereby promulgated: CLICK HERE

This will be largely advertised to (non-exhaustive list):

Emirates Upper Management
UAE GCAA, Australian CASA, European EASA, French DGAC, UK CAA, US FAA
IATA, ICAO
Airbus, Boeing
ILO (International Labor Organization)
Online publication
General and aviation-specialized media
Social networks

In line with our response gradation policy and to show a constructive approach, we have deliberately chosen to be quite lenient in our initial sentences, and, whenever considered appropriate, even offered remedial training in order to give a real chance of redemption to the concerned managers.

Managers have to be reminded that this airline does not belong to them, but to its employees as a whole, and as such, they are accountable to their shareholders –the employees– for their mismanagement. Thus, their current impunity shall cease.

Those letters are to be considered, for now, as a gentle forewarning for more drastic and coercive actions, if our message was to be taken lightly.
Do not be fooled by our sometimes light-hearted, perhaps sarcastic, humorous tone; the background of our proceedings remains deadly serious.

Our message is clear: end the fear culture, make your employees happy to work within a more rewarding and friendlier environment, or turn a blind eye to our grievances and suffer the consequences.

What can YOU do to help us?

We provide this website as a platform to publicly expose in a forum any grievance you may have against Emirates management, as well as suggestions to cure its wicked system. The purpose is to increase collective awareness and solidarity.

Be factual, detailed, precise, and refrain from emotional subjectivity.

Be aware of the risks of divulging too many details, though, and keep confidential any potentially compromising information.

Original and clever ideas of subversive actions are also particularly welcome.

Be seeing you….

Dear Terry

Disciplinary Action – Verbal Warning

We are writing to inform you of the outcome of our comprehensive appraisal where were discussed your involvement toward a managerial misconduct.

It is our honest and considered opinion that: The nature of the misconduct was your gross disregard of duties and responsibilities in your capacity of Divisional Senior Vice-President – Service Delivery. You failed to follow Emirates policies as stipulated in ERM C6-1 Code of Conduct and Business Ethics (particularly points 11 thru 14), and industry’s international best practices. Under your watch, your workforce has become highly demotivated. You have failed to avert the deep malaise and the ubiquitous fear & reporting culture among fatigued Cabin Crews, and the prevalence of commercial interests before safety, deviances nurtured by your subordinate managers, to the detriment of more essential issues. You are also responsible for the considerable amount of Cabin Crew flying physically and/or mentally unfit because too afraid of reprisals if calling in sick.

Having fully considered the facts of the case, including the opinion unanimously shared by all the crews under your authority, we confirm the decision taken that you be issued with this Verbal Warning, in accordance with the Disciplinary Procedure contained within our Charter. A copy of this verbal warning will be placed on your staff file in our Lodge and will remain live for 6 months from the date of issue.

We must emphasize your responsibility to exercise your profession to the highest standards. You are accountable for an efficient, fair and ethical management, as well as crew welfare, and a far better display of competency in your line of work. As remedial training, we urge you to read the manual entitled “Safety comes before Commercial Profit for Dummies”.

We appreciate your efforts that there will be no recurrence of this failure.

You should note that if you commit any further misconduct within a period of 6 months from the date of this verbal warning or if your performance remains below expected standards, then this verbal warning will be taken into account in deciding the seriousness of any further disciplinary action. Be also assured that the leniency of this first warning shall not preclude from more radical and coercive actions, should we notice no prompt and significant improvement in your attitude.

Be seeing you,

It is our honest and considered opinion that: The nature of the misconduct was your gross disregard of duties and responsibilities in your capacity of Deputy Chief Pilot – Boeing. You failed to follow Emirates policies as stipulated in OM-A 1.4.8.1 Chief Pilots (CP), OM-A 2.3 Accident Prevention and Flight Safety Programme, ERM C6-1 Code of Conduct and Business Ethics, C6-5 Avoidance of Harassment, and industry’s international best practices, by: promoting a deep-rooted fear culture within Flight Operations, repeatedly breaching the non-punitive principle of the Flight Data Monitoring Programme, overbearing crews, and not leading by example through a notorious incompetency and intellectual dishonesty, and power abuse to satisfy an ego trip.

Having fully considered the facts of the case, including the opinion unanimously shared by all the pilots under your authority, we confirm the decision taken that you be issued with this Verbal Warning, in accordance with the Disciplinary Procedure contained within our Charter. A copy of this verbal warning will be placed on your staff file in our Lodge and will remain live for 6 months from the date of issue.

We must emphasize your responsibility to exercise your profession to the highest standards. You are accountable for an efficient, fair and ethical management, as well as pilot welfare, and a far better display of competency in your line of work. As remedial training, we urge you to read the manual entitled “Anger Management for Dummies”.

What a shame to see that HR exists in this company only to give warning letters. Hey you HR guys you are a shame to the HR profession? Is this your job only to give warning letters. Why not find out why there is so much indiscipline issues within the company and seek to sort it out rather than create a culture of punishment. Your warning letters also do not carry enough evidence to show the nature of indiscipline. It shows how superficial your statements made in these letters. Have you realised your putting off people with these letters rather than counseling and helping staff. These warning letters should stop and the new stategy should be to counsel and advice staff before going into such serious punitive actions.

I deeply and fully support the efforts of the brave and courageous individuals who are actively participating in trying to shift the ways in which this environment has become toxic and dangerous. I hope that you restore it to the community orientated supportive environment that was intended for all involved.

  • I regret every minute I spent in that company

Hi! What a great idea the warning letters.
I wonder how did they feel getting one since that’s the reason of their job title.
I spent 4 years working for Emirates, now I regret every single efford I made in their name.
Dragana is impressive your corage, thank you for beeing my voice and all this people voice.
Next warning letter I suggest Samantha James, MCC. I assure you she truly deserves it.
I am sorry I haven’t share my Emirates experience with all of you, I’m still hurted and upset and I don’t feel ready yet to talk about it.
    Good work one again.
    Peace and love
