Redundancies in Emirates Group: Why does Dnata fire its employees?

Since I never looked forward to Emirates Group falling apart, on this occasion I will not write a long article about the fact that we all knew that management’s eternal arrogance and incapability will lead to employees massively losing their jobs and Emirates Airline slowly vanishing from the map of succesful airlines.

To be honest, Emirates had a potential. That potential has grown to greedy company’s growth and abuse of labour and human rights. There were many warning signs, including this blog, but there was nobody to listen.

Now, some announced changes may improve the alarming situation, but people will lose their jobs and the company lost its reputation so the damage is already irreparable. It could all be prevented if there were just a few people in the top management who didn’t lose their touch with reality and who respected the front line employees who, actually, do the job, instead of caring only about their bonuses and power.

I’ve got these few photos from a Dnata employee. They present e-mails which Dnata employees got recently, notifying them that DnataTravel’s revenues are down 13% and that sales have decreased 14% and that there will be redundancies. Shame.

I wish Emirates Group good luck and I wish them to get rid of all the corrupted managers who threaten their employees with prison. I also advise them to pay their employees deserved end of service money and to treat them with dignity.

    Thank you for sharing and very relevant of what is happening. Surprised emirates hasn’t started chopping but then again they had their so called transitions meeting on Thursday. In reality it should be the managers not the poor staff – some managers don’t even have the degree or qualifications- they just make it because they know someone or gets liked better.and in fact they are ruining is wonderful company that was. Now everything is a low cost carrier idea and slowly and slowly descending to nothing. These managers abusing staff doing nothing and spending time at costa and that is it. So sad but cockroaches never die – don’t forget

    Let go of all the DSVP’s SVP’s VPs inDnata. build a new emirates culture of trust, respect for people and hire based on talent not nationality..everything will change!

    Rumor has it that more HR specialists were let go this week. More cuts to come in the coming week due to long weekend. Surprisingly no cuts to grade 9 or 10 – the worst of them lot. Some grade 9 don’t even have the degree for what they do but apparently are “experienced” – hands down the worst bullocks I have ever heard. If some 9s and 10s are not shown the door then how will the influencers be changed??? So so sad – wonderful airline on its way to become BA 2. Oh wait did we forget to mention the guys BA fired are the ones that run eK now????

    dnata unde the DSVP Iain Andrws is run of totally incapable people. To be a manager in dnata you need just one thing – british passport. Iain Andrews has brought his family friends on key positions who know nothing about travel. They kept hiring super incompetent manages but who are someone’s friend and of course certainly a british passport holders. This biggest joke was Nicholas Rhodes who almost immediately brought his son on board too. Phenomenally dumb and empty guy with no knowledge in the area he was hired to manage…Sorry not being rude but just speaking the truth. If you see the hierarchy from DSVP down you will notice that almost 100% all grades till grade 9 are british with very few exceptions… Pity Emirates D&LM (detisnation and leisure management) division was given to dnata, they completely destroyed it – both businesses – Arabian Adventures and Emirates Holidays were brought to their knees with bringing incapable people in key managerial positions, bad and abusive management based on fear and pressurizing, restructuring which the only purpose was to fire few people in order to bring their own guys from UK on board. The story can go on an on as there so much to say….

      I have worked with major companies before Dnata. I have never seen the level of discrimination based on nationality. Yes if you are British you can do anything. Even rape an employee in office and get away. Absolutely unethical set of fellows running the company. Some of them were doing really unethical things in Dnata, and the top fellows were backing them because they were British. If the respective countries where these operations are run unethically is brought to the notice of their government, Dnata will be kicked out.

      I would like to tell you all you hopeless British good for nothing guys, this would not be long, things are changing in the Middle East. Business is hit hard.Your time is up, get your self ready to get kicked out of the entire Gulf. Gary Chapman I met him he is outdated in his outlook, cannot lead and highly racist person. How can such a person lead a Group company, where so many global changes are happening? Where is your focus on people? Absolutely ruthless in talk and deed when it comes to people. Such a style of managing will only bring the Group down.

    Good points above by anonymous – latest news is that they fired all those people in dnata and NOW they have posted NEW job postings on the group website Grade 9 and 10 positions in dnata travel! WOW what a joke. I wonder where in a time of cost cutting like they claimed they want to hire 5-6 managers. Dnata travel by Mr Andrews and his family is on its way out. I guess they trying to get as much money as possible before it all sinks…….

    Just a small update from the costa club HQ – this week further cuts were made to HR as more staff in particular HR Recruitment team were let go. Some were given options off finding other positions within Ek but sadly there isn’t any – I mean recrtuiement team is going as there is no recruiting going on. There is a clear hiring freeze which they keep denying yet was even published in local papers back in July. The trimming will continue but the rest of the other parts of Ek don’t know when. With so much rumor and unreliable staff the new man who will make this airline great again is keeping quiet. Good for him – I just hope he goes after the managers that really need the cleaning and all their favouritism people that they keep. Those cheaters need to go

    So we start the weekend from Costa Club HQ

    HR Recruitment have been handed notices as mentioned above. It isn’t in a bad way – what they are saying is that jobs that are “not needed or required” is now being removed. The minions are getting removed. Some managers are getting removed too but most seems in the 20+ year range. The British mafia and their incompetent minions still remain – shocking – people who don’t have degrees in the job they hold, uneducated is the correct word still remain. Would not be surprised if they soon say that I have ridden a plane meaning I can also be a pilot! Anyways maybe Mr Meuller will soon figure out that too and he will make the change. But the HR Recruitment team that are leaving are given proper goodbyes – they are being given severance and asked to leave in dignity – that is nice

    But today another batch has also been asked to leave. Learning and development or popularly known as L&D – this includes a grade 10 and some minions. They have been given 2 months just to ensure they can recoup as much money in costa coffee to bring back into their coffers. Shockingly this removal and cleanup work is being handled by none other than the wife of a certain dsvp of a prominent department at EK called FO. We will simply say her initial is JD and she is senior grade 10 at L&D. And so the favoritism and nepotism continues

    So HR for the past few months. Now L&D – matter of time till the proper clean up commences. Sadly the creators of the problem will still stay on and the cycle will commence again. No fresh faces and no proper removal of the corrupt ones- as I read here above the cockroaches never die. One accident in a year. Another accident for the baby airline flydubai. Loss of customers everywhere. Empty flights yet not fixing the real cause. Oh did I mention that skywards team with hardly any customers to report to added numerous new grade 9s recently. The story gets funnier or will Mr Mueller actually fix this mess???????

    Someone save this airline please else it’s going to make a great thesis for business majors to discuss the fall of Rome in the 21st century of businesses……

    An update from costa HQ – as everyone walks in a lot of people will think about etihad who fired 1000-3000 people from their workforce as per Bloomberg – no word from emirates. But I would like to confirm that many IT software engineers were let go over the past few weeks – not sure of numbers but maybe few dozen. They were let go as there is no projects or no further investment in certain projects

    From Costa HQ comes another update. Reconfirming that staff that have served 20 plus years are getting spoken to. It is easier to let the older ones go first or request to retire. Specific target has been lower grades – not managers. The ones that faced the chops are member of EK finance department and have left or in their way out. Once the older served staff are reduced it seems they will look at the rest. Once again managers and their minions stay on – when will they really look at qualifications tied up with the job title will be the real day when good things will happen for emirates. I think the above line is very good so will be related:

      The only qualifications that are neccessary for Management positions are as follows:
      1) British Passport
      2) No degree or professional qualification
      3) Preferable to be ex Gulf Air
      4) Racist
      5) Bullying tendancies
      6) Able to pick Indian underling to do all the work
      7) Strong bladder to hold all the Costas
      8) To encourage Indian Mafia to bully their own.
      9) To work Muslim hours in Ramadan and indeed all other months.
      10) To be totally unemployable in the UK and anywhere else…

    Seems that our friends at the State Security Directorate in Dubai are investigating senior figures (Brits…who else?!?!) in both DNATA and EK for corruption. Right at the very top of the tree. Tens of millions of USD involved. Not to mention breach of trust…

If the news is spreading why isn’t it being published. Embezzlement doesn’t surprise me – I mean look at Malaysian airlines – Mr Muller got rid of 5000 contractors that were eating MH alive. Pls do share credible data if u have – I would let the international media have a whiff as well

    As you will know, Sheikh Mohammed has his personal auditors all over the place in EGHQ. The Lebos and Egyptian boys with slicked back hair and pointy shoes. They park on Level 1 in the Car Park. Clark and his family are being investigated for fit out contracts for the 380s. Also personal use of the 319 given as a gift by Airbus. The are several others. Chapman for eliciting bribes from suppliers along with several other Brit Mafia types. The Head of State Security has been replaced in Dubai recently (Gen Daen Al Qamzi) as he wasn’t keeping a close enough eye on the Crown Jewel. Muller has a huge job on his hands. The Brit Mafia are trying to steal anything before they get thrown into jail. Watch this space….

    The Auditors work directly for Sheik Mo. Their visas come from Sheik Mo as does their family visas. I have also seen them closely. Arrogant and vicious. They will find something to justify their jobs. Money is now a huge problem in Dubai. The Mafias are already fearful. I look forward to seeing Dubai jails full of Brits and Mayali Mafia crooks.

    Wow! It seems Emirates and DNATA are collapsing! Where are all the British Uber-Managers to save the Group?

    This shows how arrogant and poor the management are. I am very sorry for the honest people who lost their jobs. Many, many more losses to come.

    all of us in EK ( lower grades ) were hoping to see some serious changes carried by Mr. Muller .. we had our hopes up…
    unfortunately.. Mr. Muller left it all in the hand on head of departments (DSVPs/SVPs) which means non of the grade 11+ will be touched
    as of now .. nothing happened for EKAS staff… but soon ( the word has it ) grades (7-10) will face severe changes including redundancies, early retirement or termination of employment… which sadly means those who were recently hired from certain nationalities get to stay and keep their positions, and those who wasted many years of their lives and actually taught the new ones who to work … lose their jobs.
    i just hope that Mr. Muller can focus on those whom he trusted to restructure the organization rather than letting them intimidate the junior ones.

    There has been a mass retrenchment exercise in Emirates group IT division. More than 250 people have been asked to go and 250 more expected in near future. Can you cover this in your next blog?
    The SVP-IT Strategy has spent a lot of money in technological experiments making EG-IT budget bloat. So far, all the strategies implemented by Neetan Chopra has failed and he is good in sucking up to higher management.

    I have read your comments and i am a bit concerned about the situation at EK. Most of people say the will be hiring new cabin crew very soon (can anyone confirm this) or is it just some speculations (again). We’ve been on hold for ages and still no feedback from them. Some people have seen their application being withdrawn in just a blink of an eye. Reason :”Lake of CC trainings “.

    With all these glamour departments hogging the limelight one department has managed to fly under the radar and avoid any glare. For almost 35 years Ek SkyCargo was a fiefdom of a few and everything that was going on elsewhere in EK was happening much more there (Cargo). Affairs, nincompoops rising from Gr5 & 6 to G10, VPs and SVPs just by being there and just because the department was growing. An SVP and a Senior Manager bonking the same secretary…
