My story from Emirates Airline Hell

This is my story in brief that shows how Emirates Airline HR has dealt with it from dishonouring “their” agreement that was signed on the contract hoping that I would get some support in filing a legal case in a country other than UAE. Such influenced individuals or managers or even senior staff have distorted the Bright image of Emirates Airline by bullying, mobbing and even playing with the company rules to meet their needs supported by HR. I’ve tried to reach some decision makers since 2010 with a help from inside and outside the company in order to draw attention on their illegal actions as same become part of each day activities however, they reached managers before me and briefing them with wrong information!

I did my utmost during my life in EK by working hard as I have more than 17 awards and compliments from the company and passengers (many for my own projects) including EK highest accolade as I have received the Chairman Award from HH in 2005 for saving a life of a passenger after his heart had stopped during transit. I had registered “Exceptional” on my PM for 3 continuous years and I have a great relation with all staff including seniors that developed to friendship. I wasn’t given or called for any “disciplinary” meetings except a single Memo on March 12th 2008 when my line manager Mr Patrick D. has done a marvelous job in changing facts supported by his officer to send me a message that I should be loyal to him.

My ex-line manager Mr Patrick D. was a perfect example for violating the “HUMANITY” rules not only the company rules, I don’t know his previous experience but, all what I know that he had joined DNATA in 1991 as a “normal” staff and had moved the chain till he was selected as ASM for Doha station. At that time, EK was almost 10 years old and there were only certain numbers of staff as the possibility of getting promoted was higher than today. He was called back to Dubai after many complaints against his strategy of running the work at Doha station. Mr Patrick had worked hard on making friends especially with influenced managers as this was his only and last card to play with when facing problems. In Dubai, he wasn’t welcomed back to DNATA as it had enough from him so, he used his “only card” to be saved from a definite termination….he was attached with one of the best manager in EKAS hoping that he would change (including attitude and behavior) and begin a positive creative new life but, he was cunning like a fox!! He was transferred to the ramp and baggage area-EBRS under Mrs Anoma leadership based on the positive feedback from that manager. Mrs Anoma in turn had taken a good care in “rehabilitating” him as a manager, no wonder he is well known of “Anoma’s son” till this moment.

Mr Patrick was very smart in knowing staff not for their achievements but, who stands behind them, he used to take good care of the local staff and building a good friendly relations with them, he was supporting only his loyal staff and distributed them in every shift to know what was happening behind his back other than work issues, what they were thinking /talking about him, a detailed “briefing” would be prepared every day before he comes to work by his senior loyal staff that are called till this very moment “Patrick Boys”.

I wasn’t welcomed by him at EBRS department thinking that I would act as “Spy” as I was against his strategy at work, he used to brief everyone including the DVP that I didn’t want to join EBRS and I prefer to stay where I was at that time!!! He had worked on many things to make me just run away from the department briefing all that I wasn’t enjoying my work at EBRS and for that, I shouldn’t be believed of whatever I say!!

In my whole life at EBRS, neither me nor any one of my colleagues have learned anything from him, he never showed us how to solve or how to anticipate problems before they arise, he never asked or listened to staff on how we can improve EBRS services….all what he showed us was the “other side” of managers i.e. giving “unjustified” warnings and memos!! I just can’t forget when one day, he called me to his office and got amazed when I saw Ms H. Al A. (HR Manager) there, he began to create some stories from his imagination about me and that all staff including managers were complaining about me!! The worst part was, Ms H. HR was supporting his wrong claims and then she said “All expatriates are saying the same thing when they are in troubles, if they found a decent job at their own country, they wouldn’t be here!!” then I looked at her and said: “First, I am not in trouble; second, the HR has set a special protocol before reaching a Hearing “not like this”: third, what do you mean by Expatriates? Mr. Clark is expatriate, Mr. Morris Flanagan is expatriate, Mr. Dale Griffith is expatriate, the manager here (Patrick) is expatriate too….most of the expatriates are working hard to add more success to EK.” This was EK HR representative who supposed to investigate and support the staff but it seems, HR will put heads down for managers.

Patrick did not share any plan(s) with any staff asking them for optimum opinion in fact, he would ignore any “feedback” concerning ideas or projects as he would go for what is in his head or (of course) his seniors. For example, 7 years ago EBRS management have allocated luggage carousel for the premium passengers however, this turned out on the staff with different scenarios of harassments from passengers and Patrick didn’t show any interest to listen and/or reply on staff emails to enhance this service as one time he called me to say “You are a supervisor…just be a supervisor, we don’t want anything else from you…no ideas…no projects…this is a message from the DVP”!! EBRS had continued with the plan until it was stopped (with immediate effect) by Mr. Tim Clark When he called SVP Mr. M Mattar for that on September 2009!!

On an “opening” for a new post “EBRS Duty Officers-Grade 7” and just after the assessment, Patrick came out of the lounge to tell me to look for the grade in other department as they have already chosen the suitable staff even though, this was against the company rules as 2 more groups were coming after we finish our assessment besides, the interview still didn’t assign yet!!! He said, I am the Decision Maker here!!! And yes…managers can play up and down with the rules supported by HR.

I am not the only one who suffered from his “sadist games” there are a lot of staff who tasted his pain, many good staff had received rejection to their application for higher grades from him without a valid reason set as per HR or even just “destroy” their hopes by unjustified Warnings and memos.

Speaking about the “unjustified” warnings that Patrick used to give EBRS staff without notice as per the rules and regulations, once my shift manager Ms Lynelle Adkins had asked me something about my PM, she said “I didn’t know that you have a recent warning”, I said I don’t have a warning….it was a Memo longtime back and it is not in the system anymore!!, she turned the screen toward me and said look! There was a warning issued about a week ago by the Line Manager Patrick D…Amazingly, it was the same my old Memo text but, with current date!!! There is a protocol for issuing warnings set by HR so basically, he can put whatever on my system without discussing same with me as per the rules!! I was disappointed and couldn’t think anymore…I heard some strange voices but, I opened my eyes to find myself on the stretcher and rushed to Rashid Hospital by Airport Medical Team after I collapsed with sever seizure!!!

It was Friday Feb 26th 2010 I will remember that date for the rest of my life. Doctors had done CT scan but, they wanted to go for MRI as the checks were insufficient to determine the reason for the sever seizure anyways, hospital staff asked me to arrange initially 10,000 AED as my Governmental Health card, my EK health insurance even my “emergency” case didn’t save me from continuing my medical checks in a public hospital! I had to wait for many hours for EK to arrange the required money as every 10-15 minutes a nurse would come and ask me for the same however, after 6 hours of waiting, I had signed on the self discharge form and I left the hospital.

I couldn’t do the MRI scan in private hospitals that honor my EK insurance as I have to wait for EK to send them the approval form. During that period, I had another 3 seizure attacks that ended each time in a different hospital however, I had a meeting with Mr Ashley F. EKAS HR in order to submit a huge complaint against my manager Mr Patrick D. having my old memo dated March 12, 2008 to compare it with the recent warning on his system as it has the same text, Mr Ashley was so amazed and stupor that he was wondering how did he do that, he took a copy of the memo as he would investigate on that and delete this “unjustified” warning from my file at the same time, he asked for some time and not to tell anyone about this meeting and/or my complaint against Patrick! (Later, I found out that he was protecting Patrick!).

I met Ranjini from EK Medical Benefit Administration (MBA) to follow up as my life without treatment was described as “Unstable”, Ranjini informed me that EK Clinic approved my treatment 2 days ago. At the City Hospital I was examined by Dr Deep Al Kayed (MD, FAAN- US Board certified Neurologist and Clinical Neurophysiologist) however, he didn’t give me a clear definite answer whether it was Anteriovenos Malformation-AVM that caused the Tumor or something else as he said “Most of the AVMs take a quiet long time to be formed however, your case is different as the location (Left thalamic basal Ganglia),  the size of the tumor is very large 3.9 CM in its antero-posterior, 3.8CM in its height and 1.9 CM in its coronal dimension with high pressure on the surrounding structures and with a huge massive Edema that is compressing the cerebral nerves made me say that it was recently formed and maybe this explains why you didn’t suffer from it before”. The hospital suggested starting treatment as soon as possible to prevent further complications and possible death by a professional team in Jordan as doctors there have great experience in treating same. It is good to mention that I had bad scenarios trying to get a CD for my MRI as every staff I asked him, he would come back to me saying once, it is against the policy then, the machine was inoperative…etc!! I had to meet the duty manager for that who had confirmed to me that the hospital gives a CD copy to the patients without even asking however, after about 3 hours of negotiation, they gave me the CD but, I didn’t know that there was a bad story behind hiding it!

Emirates Airline “MBA” had approved my treatment outside UAE (in Jordan) based on the discharge report from the City Hospital, Dubai Hospital and Rashid Hospital. Ranjini had confirmed that the company insurance would be responsible for my treatment and my basic salary (at least) would be deposited in my bank account as usual till the end of my treatment as:

  • I had collapsed on duty and transferred to Rashid Hospital by Airport Medical Team.
  • MAS (Manager Airport Services) and ASM (Airport Services Manager) had filed an incident report.
  • EK Clinic/Doctors had approved my treatment in Jordan according to the medical reports from Rashid, Dubai and the City Hospital however, I wasn’t not invited to see anyone of them or at least, to be examined by EK Doctors.

I went with my colleague to another private Dr to have a second opinion of my MRI examination but, we were shocked when we found out that the City Hospital gave me just a BLANK CD!!  It couldn’t be by mistake as the hospital duty manager gave it to me after a big hassle. I went again there and I met a different duty manager and I made sure to take my own MRI CD after reviewing it, I heard it from there that my employer (HR) was against giving me the CD, I wrongly though because HR/insurance had paid my bill so, the hospital should take their permission first, I DIDN’T KNOW THEY WERE HIDING THAT MY BRAIN HAD BLEEDED (HEMORRAHAGE) AND DUE TO THIS, I WAS UNFIT TO FLY (you can google it) however, the HR wanted me to go home ASAP to close my case from Dubai side and be with HR manager Ashley F. only.

Since I was having some financial commitments with banks (personal loan +credit cards), I called their customer service advising them of the same and that I needed to seek treatment in Jordan as per the medical reports so, I have updated my contacts and my email address.

I was in touch with my employer most of the time as I used to send medical reports the minute I received them, doctors have described my case as critical, rare and serious that needs to be treated ASAP, complications might include another brain bleeding (haemorrhage) and/or stroke which may lead to death. Ashley called me many times offering me some “good offers” if I submitted my resignation as he would consider it as medical termination, he would send some extra “cash” which would help in my treatment as I was the first EKAS to be awarded the Chairman Award, he would authorize the treatment fees till recovery, he would speak and send the banks a letter of my medical termination so that they would activate their insurance to settle down my outstanding of my loan and cards and would follow up with them in order to give me my same outstanding/principle amount as per their insurance policy (Emirates NDB bank is doing that for my loan), he would call my company insurance 24 months basic salary as per contract, my belongings at my apartment at no cost and finally, he would get me back to EK when I finish my treatment however, I refused his offer in so many times.

The MBA had reimbursed my treatment only one time however; they used their own calculations and the sum was “much” less than what the receipts showed. I tried calling them many times after emailing them but, they didn’t reply…Even HR Ashley had ignored my emails after asking me to copy him on the emails. My own basic salary was stopped since May 2010 and in almost every email I send Ashley I used to put him in full picture regarding the heavy costs for my treatment that would stop if –at least-my salary and medical fees were not paid but, he was (some what) referring to this issue as a private issue and I should be responsible for it. I even tried to explain that I was covered by EK medical insurance and I passed the company medical test before I joined EK and all that has formed recently as per my medical reports but unfortunately, EK Clinic and/or HR had judged on that as it was formed since birth. Then why I wasn’t asked to be examined by EK doctors when I had collapsed with seizure on duty? I was on duty when that happened?

Ashley was trying to put a lot of pressure so that I would ask him for termination as once; he gave me 2 options either to send him my doctor contacts or to come to Dubai because EK doctors wanted to examine me to make sure that I am on the right track even though, I was sending my medical reports as soon as I get them and my treatment didn’t finish yet but, traveling to Dubai by plane was against any medical advice in fact, my doctors were amazed from my employer request as I had two recent brain embolizations and I was under condensed Physiotherapy and the worst part, I should pay for everything including my tickets, staying in Dubai…etc the minute I was saving every Dirham for my treatment after EK had stopped my insurance and my salary as authorized by MBA for the 3 above reasons. I sent Ashley my doctor contacts and I told him that I was in favor of coming to Dubai as per EK Doctors request and to finalize my salary and treatment issues with MBA.

A few weeks later, Ashley returned back asking me to come to Dubai as he fixed an appointment with Dr Diane Mclvor on May 30th 2011at 1130AM on his email, he said that EK Dr has called my Dr in Jordan however, it was still not sufficient detail to ascertain my fitness for continued employment!! This is absolutely WRONG because whoever called my doctor was inquiring about my medical progress only and my Dr informed that I was improving (with details) however, my doctors have advised to reconsider 12hours shift as it is hectic and unhealthy and they wrote this on their report that I had sent to HR.

On his email, Ashley wrote that he ran a quick check with immigration and found that a police case was filed by Mashreq Bank with a total sum of 9,500AED, he asked me to settle that amount before coming as police arrest could happen and would cause extreme stress for me!. First, the Immigration Department wouldn’t release some “secure” information to anyone unless he has a written authority from me as this is illegal second, police case was filed because my salary was stopped from being deposited in my account third, this is a private issue however, Ashley went there to file a case against me (Escaping from the employer case No. 372994) as he knew that I have some financial commitment with banks and therefore, the banks would do the same and exclude me from their insurance under “Medical Termination” or”Loss of job due sickness” scheme even getting the same outstanding after settling it. He made sure to answer any call from banks with “We don’t know where he is and we filed a case against him”. If Ashley had any sense of “humanity” its better to ask EK Clinic why EK doctors insisted (as per Ashley) to be examined in Dubai (rather than do it at their approved clinic for Jordan staff in Jordan) when EK Clinic had approved my treatment in Jordan without even seeing me and all the medical reports were sent to them up to date in terms of, what we have done and what is the next step in details. Doctors can’t jeopardize a human life by asking a patient with recent brain operations to fly to Dubai to be examined and they are not going to put me in a plane with a recent hemorrhage that was hidden from me and send me to Jordan for good…This is how EK-HR would do to protect managers and in my case, protecting themselves from being questioned or what they have done regarding my complaint!

I informed my doctors that I wanted to go to Dubai as they knew my company comes first however, on June 3rd 2011, my Dr sent me a report indicated that my Drs were not in favor of traveling by plane at this stage due to my recent brain operations, recent Haemorrhage and the Edema that is still exists till the moment as they didn’t want to hold any legal responsibility, however, they gave me that decision as I should consider Oxygen (extra bottle) onboard the flight if I decided to go as I MIGHT need it. I sent the report to Ashley as usual to prepare the MEDIF form and send it to EK Clinic then to reservation as I knew from before when I was Public Relation Officer that sick passengers with Oxygen bottle can travel but they have to inform EK prior and fill Medical Form (MEDIF) unfortunately, Ashley had taken this report as a reason to terminate my services even though, it is NOT a valid reason for termination set by company therefore, it is illegal! in fact, there is a legal question here of how could EK Dr wants me to travel to Dubai when I had recent brain operations and passed brain bleeding condition to fly to Dubai just to be examined by this Dr!

Once again, my doctors wrote this in their report so as not to hold any legal responsibility however, they didn’t say that I will be unable to perform my duties as what Ashley wrote in the Medical Termination and made the DVP signed on it!! I even made that clear on June 15th 2011 when Ashley called me to tell me his decision.

Ashley F. had done great job to make me suffer and taste different pains. Once My Drs thought of sharing my critical case (the blockage in the cerebral brain veins and my cerebral Edema which is still existed at almost the same volume before the operations) with the neurosurgeons and Drs from all over the world who were coming to attend a medical seminar , I have put Ashley in picture through my several calls regarding my appointment on Aug 5th 2011 since middle of June that was almost a month prior, he promised to follow up personally with staff to ensure I receive my OWN dues +EOS before the end of July. Unfortunately, during that period he left to BOM on vacation without leaving a simple hand over to his office staff to send my money eventually, I had to cancel my appointment on Aug 4th and wasted that great chance….Ashley said on the phone “I am also a human and I needed this vacation to work properly”!! But, probably he forgot that I needed MY money to live safely with no more pain!

Ashley F. had delayed sending my dues on purpose in many times, it took more than 100 days after my medical termination to calculate and send my dues!! I have to mention that Ashley did something to the calculation to my benefit as he changed half day to full day which added few hundred Dirhams to the total so as to tell whoever asked him that he did his best for me but, he excluded me from 2011 yearly bonus (11 weeks) and my company paid tickets even my EOS as he send it to Emirates NDB bank for my loan instead of sending them my medical termination but, he authorized my SRC tickets!!

The amazement of all and after my Medical Termination and after filing a case against me and after pushing banks to do the same and after making sure that banks had deprived me from their insurance by closing the outstanding and giving me the same outstanding that would be invested in my treatment and of course, after delaying my treatment many times he just…send me back my basic salary from June 2010 till June 12 2011 (still short in 1 month) as what first authorized by MBA before!! I got the chance to speak to EVP-HR Mr Abdulaziz Al Ali as he was waiting for my call but unfortunately, he got WRONG briefing from Ashley who –for sure- had briefed him that he did his utmost for my case. Mr Abdulaziz had thankfully authorized my Financial Year Profit as he said that same was authorized by HH The Chairman to all and every staff and no one can take it from you, he sent Ashley an email to send the FYP with immediate effect however, I took him about a month to receive it after calling him! During the call, Mr Abdulaziz said that “EK can’t give you back your salary as Ashley had briefed him why” when I asked him about my “Personal Accident & Life Insurance” for grade 6 (24 months basic salary) the contract that was given to me when promoted to grade 6!!

This is part of what happened and I still have all the conversation and reports saved but, no one took the initiative to investigate as all were depending on the HR briefing, even the head of EK HR was given wrong briefings!. I haven’t signed on any paper that certifies that I have received all my dues or all my rights even after sending my money actually, I can’t do that as I became disabled of 75% according to 3 medical committees that belongs to Ministry of Health in Jordan, my doctors said that I could be saved from this if my treatment and physiotherapy wasn’t interrupted. I am ready for any medical checks that would be required by the court, my doctors are also ready for a hearing and I hope to get a legal help.

    I believe your experiences are commensurate with the local norm at EK! As sad as that may be… the “Borg” continues to operate (Putrefied puppies show up constantly)… and for that… we are all truly screwed.
    Ha, ha ,ha go the managers…as we can replace you at will….
    …. so goes the allegiance of staff…and to hell with you’re opinion, justified or not…. YOU MUST OBEY!!!!

    Well, there should be a time for reviewing what HR staff have done away from company policy to meet their needs. No one is perfect here but, insisting on making mistakes after mistakes and on purpose indicates that there is something wrong going on and should be corrected!!

    They are sitting behind their desks and I can use only one hand, medications for a life time and walking imbalance…who is responsible for that?? If Ashley wanted to send me my salary that MBA/my insurance had authorized it then, why he didn’t do that on regular basis each month at least, it could be invested regularly in my treatment and physiotherapy that could save me from disability!! Besides, where is my medical insurance and “Personal Accident & Life Insurance” as indicated on my contract!!

    It has been a long time since the matter began and who knows what certain people have done with the facts, I still have everything and ready for anything the court wants.

    My dear friend

    Sorry to hear how EK has treated you after 17 years. If you work with another firm for this long they will treasure you and even if you make a mistake they will mentor and guide you not show you the door. So my friend do not feel bad it they have done this to you. EK is ruthless to people. HR is a set of unprofessional idiots they do what the line manager or business head says so, they are like fools sitting there. Real fools! So do not get angry with them. I know what HR does in EK . I saw how unprofessional and dishonest many people are itself in HR. Go ahead in your life do not waste your time about EK. Its a company does not deserve good people nor their hardwork or loyality. The whole company is a mess, expect being profitable. I have seen no body can take corrective action either of the CEO’s so much wrong and unethical things are happening in this company.
    Shame on HR people when they know something is wrong and even if the employee is correct they will take the side of these dishonest managers. they infact bring shame to the HR Profession when you see something unjust and overlook it to protect their job. The amount of discrimination that happens because of color and nationality itself is a huge problem for people and this is never takeup. The culture of the company itself is a punishable culture. warnings and final warnings, hearings. Its like as if they are dealing with prisoners and thieves.

    So my friend go ahead do not waste time, you have 17 years of good experience another firm will value and most importantly treat you well.

      I wish I could my friend, I became disabled and still under treatment saving every Penny to continue that even though, I was medically insured as per my contract but, I was illegally deprived from it!!

      Someone who has more than 17 awards including Chairman Award and registered exceptional for 3 continuous years would not refuse to adhere to Airport Authorities as what Patrick claimed in his unfair memo! and someone who reached a position of manager in HR should be fair enough to every employee and not to even brief his manager with wrong information!!

      Yes, they are responsible as since Feb 2010 till this very moment, I’m still under treatment and struggling for a better life without pain and unhappy surprises. I challenge them even Emirates Airline to prove that I’m wrong and whatever I said is untrue but in the end, justice should take place and for that, I’m calling everyone, every human rights authority, every school of law…etc to adopt my case.

    I know that this article is too long for readers however, I tried to shorten it as much as possible so that it gets to the point. I tried to cover almost 15 months of almost every week conversation in just few pages leaving the rest for whoever wants to know more and the “more” is yet important.

    I have been in HR for long time, sad that I happened to come to Emirates. One thing I can tell everyone in this blog. HR folks in Emirates dont know anything.Remember a set of fools. They cannot help you! they first of all need help, because the management does not recognise what HR says and treats they like shit including the CEO. They have no power, they can only punish, and that too based on the line managers words. HR has no Identity. I was shocked to see the image of HR as a department meant for punishing employees. Check out other firms, employees love to come HR . My friend dont fight with the company, it is no use. I saw the level of discrimination its very sad that they still do not recognise that employees are the Human Capital for the company, not profits. I feel so ashamed that I worked with such a company, working so many years. Really those who work in HR for emirates they are a disgrace to HR profession. The have no identity no guts to do what is right!

      After reading your comment many times, you brought back what HR Ms H.A.AL said to me (I think you know that name very well)” All expatriates are saying the same thing when they are in troubles, if they found a job in their countries, they wouldn’t be here” If this is how they look to expatriates, what do you expect from them!!

      Probably I disagree with one thing that HR managers have the power to turn things upside down without a single question. Ashley had briefed his manager EVP HR Mr Abdulaziz Al Ali with wrong information he actually violated the company rules in so many scenarios during my treatment which he made sure to stop any financial help from the insurance after being approved by EK Clinic, he played it right by sending me home to let “no one” see or hear or even listen from me…it would be like “one man show” he briefed his fabricated wrong part and I was not there to brief my second part because I’m in different country getting my treatment, they wouldn’t know (I presume) that he had filed cases against me “Escape from the employer” and made the banks do the same even though, I was Medically Terminated from the company and all this were done just to defined his friend Patrick -my line manager- from being asked…What a loyal friend!!!

      I presume that my case is-somewhat- different from the cases we’ve read on this blog as it contains violation to the company rules and at the same time, against humanity!! My friend…I became disabled and still under treatment because of Ashley and his loyalty to his friend and not the company and I think no one dare to investigate. Don’t think that I am very happy to publish my story here, I am down to earth loyal to my company but as I said before, I found all doors closed and I wouldn’t be amazed if the CEO doors were closed too cause no cares when it comes to staff issue.

    Unfortunately EK wants staff fully working and no sickness no matter how severe it is. I myself had them trying to make me resign estating that I had suffered from a condition before (which I hadn’t) and refused to pay for my treatment. The medical assistant I received from a psychiatrist offered me as solution to accept marriage as a “western” second wife to someone he knew. I mean it, seriously!
    Dr Diane Mclvor is a JOKE! She didn’t tell me I had multiple cysts in my BOTH ovaries she hid it from me as if I couldn’t take the results for another doctor to check.
    The worst part of EK is that they’re untoucheables, nothing but our stories can change something there.
    Wish you all the best, Taghai, from all your misery with that airline that treats employees as mere slaves which they can throw out when they become useless.

      I thank you my friend. I don’t know Dr Mclvor and I never met her before however, she is part of the case as I’m handling her the responsibility of trying to get me on plane and jeopardizing my life even though, I was UNFIT to fly. She had all my medical reports up to date which showed that (as per Ashley), she could easily keep herself out of this game but it seems, when the decision is made, all will have to agree on it and do their parts away from humanity and profession.

      I am on the way to press as I made up this decision after emails…however, I hope The President Mr Tim Clark and EVP Mr Abdulaziz Al Ali could have some answers based on facts and I hope they could precede the press …..This is Not Ashley or Patrick airline…This company is built on rules and regulations and it will be asked about that, let us see how passengers would act.

    The only way to teach this company a good lesson is have a world wide social media campaign against companies that do such nonsense behind their brand name. This is one good example, to create awareness among customers, vendors and the labor market that such unethical practices happen and therefore boycott or stop flying Emirates. I have heard horrible stories about what happens inside, the company.

      Maybe I didn’t make myself clear my friend, I am not against Emirates Airline, I am against the influenced managers who are changing the company rules to meet their own needs and my case is just an example, it is a big “story” and long article but I tried to put it in brief as much as possible.

      I have nothing to lose more than I lost and if I would end up in jail for writing “my true story” at least, it would be less stressful as I don’t have to think about tomorrow and how to get my medication!! On the other hand, I am putting everything in details and I still have everything documented.

      I was medically terminated and I put it here so that everyone can see it, how come Ashley filed a case against me of “Escaping from the employer”!!! When I was medically insured why did he stopped my treatment in fact, how could he put me on a plane to fly all the way home and hide that my brain had bled (unfit to fly), What about my medical insurance which is equal to 24 months as indicated by my contract?? What did he do regarding my complaint against “his friend” my manager Patrick, did he investigate how a memo can be changed to current Warning by changing only the date!! I am asking everyone from EVP Abdulaziz Al Ali (who Ashley lied to him) all the way to EK President to just investigate and I am ready to answer back every little question as I am putting facts and my “facts” is original and different than Ashley or Patrick “facts”!!

      I am doing what you have pointed out as I am getting inquiries from media and competitors and soon will be available world wide.

    Please update us with your news? Can I also suggest you write to the Big Three U.S. carriers? The more EK is outed for how its management treat people, the more difficult it will be for them. They are now parking planes under the guise of “Deep Maintenance” All of us wronged by EK MUST come together and expose them for what they are. Liars. Cheats. Corrupt.

Currently, I’m communicating with a “Bunch” of them at the same time and I have to get some required info, sometimes I have to scan and send them. Just approach them and give them”my story” and tell them this is what’s happening in Emirates Airline and this is the quality and/or the humanity of its “managers”.

    EK used to shake the whole world for nature crisis and be the first to provide help and assistance to market its “unreal and fake” humanity and to make publicity but when it comes to EK staff, it would be the last.

    Unfortunately, this subject is almost sorted out as they in turn have threatened them big time however, they can do it threw a third party same as what is happening now!!

    Ali, I am not afraid of anything….if that was their “appreciation and treat” for having 17 awards including Emirates Airline highest accolade “The Chairman Award” well, I wonder what the rest would get!! Continue reading and concentrate on how a manager can destroy your professional life even your life in just minutes based on lies….in fact, I can’t imagine the word “liar” attached with a manager…can you!!! Ashley the HR manager was lying to his EVP when he briefed him WRONGLY that EK can’t give me back my salary even though, he calculated my salary over months passed and he did the transfer as per MBA instruction!!! How many times did I ask him to release my salary to just continue my treatment which EK insurance had approved it and was stopped by Ashley but, he was referring to it as a private issue that EK has nothing to do with it other times, he was challenging if I have this on paper signed by MBA!!

    Ashley have done many violations and still there are more other than the above mentioned and you will read it or even hear about it soon with the saved conversation. All that happened just to support his friend Patrick – my ex line manager I wounder what he have done with my “complaint” against Patrick.

    I am not afraid of anything and I think I won’t lose more than what I have lost…I became disabled because of his loyalty to his friend. I have joined Emirates Airline after doing their medical check and they have to be responsible for anything as per my contract….Last thing I want to say is “Say: “Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us: He is our protector”: and on Allah let the Believers put their trust”.

      Well, I still think that the company is based on rules and regulations and all was due to influenced manager(s) that no one could ask him a question not even EK Security due to his position (HR). Unfortunately, he represented Emirates Airline and that’s why, EK has to be blamed and that’s what I told the interviewers add to that, he was lying to EVP-HR by not giving him the correct information as when I called EVP-HR and told me that he got briefing from Ashley that EK can’t return back my salaries as per MBA when I asked him about my insurance in the contract!!!

      The amazing thing that all my “salaries” (missing almost 1 month) were paid off before my call with EVP-HR however, Ashley refused and even ignored my several requests to release them to continue my treatment during my calls and emails. The Medical Benefit Administration has approved my treatment and my monthly basic salary to be outside UAE and in Jordan as per the discharge report from The City Hospital because of 3 things:

      1- I was collapsed with sever seizure on duty and transferred to Rashid Hospital by Airport Medical Team.

      2- The Manager Airport Services and Airport Services Manager have filed an incident report.

      3- EK Clinic or EK Doctors have approved my treatment in Jordan.

      Ashley has stopped both my treatment and my salary for no reason except being loyal to his friend who I submitted a huge complaint, if MBA was the one who stopped them, it could send me a notification regarding that.

    I love the way the EK Management Troll appears to troll and name you. I guess patient confidentiality or employer confidentiality doesn’t matter. For ALL of you thinking of applying to EK look how EK treat such a star employee. There are now many people watching EK. The issue of subsidies is cropping up more and more. I know that numerous bodies are investigating EK and its dirty deals. I’m writing a story on subsidies. EK have threatened me with legal action. I told them to try their luck in court. Please keep writing in with your stories. EK is now very frightened and very much under the microscope. Taimour, good luck with your recovery.

      Thank you dear and much appreciate calling your ex colleague “a Star” and I thank god that same was published on “Safar” otherwise, it could have been changed or even derailed…it’s been almost six years and only god knows what happened to my working file with HR that’s why I made a photocopy of my HR Direct when I was in Dubai!!

      I am not talking about Ashley or Patrick or their manager(s), I’ve reached who is “on top of them” and didn’t even care to just review things….first by a friend and VIP when his office secretary had “closed the line” on her face second by sending a message through social media as he deleted my name from his “friends list” even reported me after helping him!! So, what do you expect….justice!!!

        i’m not taking sides in here, i’m 110% against EK managers treat their staff. specially that im in a senior position and i see things from different angle and i have things against almost everyone between grades 09-12 , yet nothing to be changed .. you have no idea what happens in EGHQ or conference rooms.

        did you try to look at this from a business perspective ?
        don’t get me wrong but what happened to you wasn’t EK mistake in anyway .. also your contract ends if you failed to resume duty after 6 months of sick leave.. even if it was an industrial injury ( which in your case wasn’t ).
        when you are a business owner … you can’t convert it into charity and taking care of ill staff … loose ends needs to be cut off .
        maybe the way EK and/or ashley followed was ugly and unprofessional yet it had to be done soon or later.
        few days ago i spoke to EVP HR and you are right … he didn’t know the whole situation … he kept copies of the e-mails from ashley about you … and you might be surprised that even P-EKA is aware of it.. but even if they knew the whole story with the smallest details they can’t keep you forever.. everything comes to an end.

          I thank you for raising this point Eminzm as I welcome same for discussion. First, I am looking for what my company has provided for the staff (myself included) The Medical Insurance but, I was deprived from it by Ashley. I can speak more than you can imagine about my case because I lived every second from the minute I arrived to Rashid Hospital by Airport medical team till now.

          Apparently, you did not read what Ashley have done and I am talking about so many illegality as per HR rules even sending my own dues to attend the medical seminar which I have called him weeks before but he went to BOM on vacation without leaving a simple handover would show the type of a manager that I had to deal with or when he have filed a case of “escaping from the employer” which would put our company in troubles having the Medical Termination…or when he have fixed an appointment with Dr Diane Mclvor to be examined in Dubai by her (EK Dr) even though, I was unfit to fly due to 2 recent brain operations and when I decided to follow his commands to fly to Dubai, he have medically terminated my services because my doctors advised to have Oxygen on board as I might need it…etc My friend, please read my story and be third party as I have consulted many offices and soon you will see me talking about that.

          On the other hand, why don’t you ask him what he have done regarding my complaint against Patrick my ex line manager!!!

          As I said before, managers like Ashley or even Patrick can destroy your professional life in just seconds not minutes. What I have mentioned here is just a small piece of what I had and you will hear more shortly.

          With all my respect, I know that VIPs in the company know about my story. I totally agree with you that Mr AAA is a very nice man however, I told him some of my story on the phone when I called him and I’m very grateful for giving me part of his precious time but Ashley was faster and more apparently TRUSTED than me as he had briefed him with wrong details, to give him the proof, I told him that Ashley had deprived me from the Financial Year Bonus and he was kind enough to return it back to me and I don’t know if I can blame him of not holding an investigation as I called for that through our friend!!

          2 more things, you said “your contract ends if you failed to resume duty after 6 months of sick leave.. even if it was an industrial injury ( which in your case wasn’t )” I discussed that with Ranjini MBA when she told me my treatment is till recovery as I didn’t know that it would take more than a month to recover however, because I have EK Doctors approval with my DVP approval it can be extended and I have witnessed similar cases before I joined EBRS….to support my answer, why did he calculate my back salaries once I left Dubai till my last day in the company?? Because he felt pity!!!

          What is important for me is to see my ideas and projects born into reality to support and help my company toward success, it doesn’t bother me being my name was taken out…in fact, you should blame who is on top of Rami or who have accepted them without explaining them or lets say “troubleshoot” them!! Everyone is looking for a success and recognition for me, I can feel my achievements the minute I enter the airport and what a great feelings. Rami is a good listener at least for me…I told Patrick some of my “great” ideas but, he wasn’t interested or I would say, he didn’t understand what I was talking about….that’s the difference and all depends on you.

          I want to add one more thing and with all my respect, it is not my fault or mistake because EVP HR didn’t know the whole situation…I tried to do my best through my call and I’m sure that my friend have done his part too however, he believed Ashley “his manager” who was giving him wrong information and apparently, he knows the truth now!!

          When Ashley decided to Medically Terminate my services for reason of “Oxygen Bottle” story, I could ask the court to bring me back because the reason was “illegal” for termination as set by HR rules and regulations and because of my achievements at EK however, I knew that I would be unfit to perform my duties and I’ve faced a lot of problems before termination add to that, Patrick would be there following me in a way or other…someone who changed my unjustified MEMO to a current warning….could do more than that.

          Last thing, any business is always attached to medical insurance and is set by Ministry of Labor in UAE for expatriates it is a right and prerogative and not “Charity” thing!! I’ve passed the company medical check and upon the positive results, I was recruited same as you and every staff…I don’t want to mix up things but, working on 12 hours shift for more than continuous 5 years in Customer Service and “Manager” services could make a mountain fall!! I have medical reports which speak about that. My job before joining EK was recommending medical check every 6 months as per FAA and CAA!!

          Emin3m, I don’t know why I kept reading your comment above….I believe it has many hidden things and I hope I was able to make them clear.

          The “working environment” is absolutely unhealthy, 12 hours shift of condensed customer service for more than 6 years….only mad passengers with different kinds of problems come to solve their problems within your limited authority and when you ask for senior authority, he would put you in another problem i.e. you cannot solve problems and don’t send them to me and you become mentally unstable because of the stress!

          I don’t want to come back and wasn’t looking for that even though, it breaks my heart cause I still have many to give my company. What makes me join the “opposition” is the way I’ve been treated…Ashley didn’t keep his word however, I was sending my emails CC so many senior staff but they didn’t do anything, he was acting smart as he used to call me to promise of new things within company rules and regulations i.e. medical insurance. Even my dues which I was eligible for he deprived me from them my salaries he calculated them and sent me after I was medically terminated in one shot which forced me to interrupt and/or discontinue my planned treatment causing many many negativity one of them, I can’t move my right side freely as normal human due to delayed operations…Whom to legally blame other than the company!! It could have been sorted out in less than a day and as per company rules but, he managed to let me taste the pain because I had complained about his friend “doggy” Patrick!!

    May I please ask a question? Taimour was provided with medical insurance by EK. Was everything done correctly when he was insured by EK? Answer No. Did EK pay him his dues. Answer No. I know AAA. He is really a lovely and warm man. If AAA, knew everything and the truth, he would have fixed it. I have no doubt. Clark on the other hand is a horrible individual and an arrogant monster. EK is indeed a business. Sucked dry to pay Dubai’s debts. EK have a Charity. The Emirates Airlines Foundation. No accounts. No names of External Auditors. Why don’t they use some of that money donated by passengers to help staff in Taimour’s position? Please don’t defend EK here they are defenceless

    Well, I agree with you and to be honest, one of my dear friends had brought us together on a phone call before he explained him what had happened. AAA listened from me but as I said above, Ashley was faster and somewhat trusted you know what I mean! Ashley was not briefing him with correct information, I got to know that from his call however, I was just trying to solve a problem and I wasn’t looking to create problems…I’ve showed him some examples which indicated that I was right and Ashley was wrong…it was up to him and as a respect I couldn’t say more!! You know…it is good to leave a positive image rather than negative especially when you are dealing with influenced “people” even if you are leaving them. This man gave me a lot and I have learnt a lot from his call and I do appreciate giving me part of his precious time.

    I don’t know about Mr Clark, I met him once as we were invited to our friend house for dinner…we chatted for a while and that was it.

    I don’t need charity and I don’t want anyone to give me money for treatment in fact, I’ve been offered that thing in the country that I was getting my treatment in from a “peace” non governmental agency but, I have refused their help. They have offered that thing because I am the only one who reached that stage and still alive..they wanted to deeply study my case.

    The bottom line is, EK is a very wonderful company but, some influenced managers are destroying its bright image and same must be stopped!! I was medically insured and was sent to Jordan for treatment and my salary was approved by MBA so, why it was stopped after less than 40 days!! Who is responsible for my disability? Now, the whole world should know why.

          MY SUICIDE NOTE – AFTER I GOT FIRED. Its so hard to talk when you want to kill yourself. That’s above and beyond everything else, and it’s not a mental complaint-it’s a physical thing, like it’s physically hard to open your mouth and make the words come out, you never know when they will use it against you. They don’t come out smooth and in conjunction with your brain the way normal people’s words do; they come out in chunks as if from a crushed-ice dispenser; you stumble on them as they gather behind your lower lip. So you just keep quiet.

          If I had wanted to stay alive and give them an opportunity then I would have had to think that I’m the one to blame,
          Because if that would’ve been the case then I’d be the one who would make it right
          Therefore my entire feelings of dissatisfaction would be able to be rectified by me

    I support this idea as long as decision makers are kept silent and ignoring what is happening in EK. Before my medical termination, I tried my best to speak to some of them, I suggested to have EVP HR Mr Abdulaziz Al Ali to form a committee to look into my case as we all trust “his name” and whatever his action would be, it would be honored by all parties however, Ashley was smart enough to cover all “missing” parts and therefore, was giving him wrong information. During my call with him I felt that and as a respect for him and my company, I couldn’t tell him that your manager was giving you wrong information but, I told him some examples of what he did that was far from the company rules and regulations.

    Probably may case is different as it has violations to company rules + humanity issue part of it, Ashley had played a marvelous job by depriving me from my rights that the company (MBA) had authorized it for my case and to prove this, my back dated salaries which was authorized by MBA with treatment and was stopped without letting me know by Ashley and after the medical termination, he added them and then sent them to me!! It shows on the medical report (above) from my doctors that I had to cancel my appointment in the medical seminar because Ashley went to BOM without leaving a simple handover to his office staff to send my own I repeat…my own dues!!. Back old days, staff used to help each other as one family, I can still remember that and for that, I can’t accept when Ashley had claimed when my dues took over 3 months to reach me (in 2 times) that “Payroll staff are not doing the job right”…staff who knew that same was for sick staff who was waiting to continue treatment would leave everything and start doing my paper work immediately!!

    One day as I was trying to help a decision maker on “Instagram” on Facebook private chat upon his request for almost 2 days, I unintentionally mentioned something about my case, he deleted me from his Friends list and reported me to Facebook! Maybe this explained why his account was deactivated for almost a month as I have denied the claim with our chat and I still have everything saved and the mail I received from Facebook and my reply.

    As I said, I support this idea and maybe we can do video chat as what I did before.

    This is horrible. Really screwed up. I can feel your pain and I can totally relate to your story because I’m going through the same.. I read your story more than once and I’m sorry to hear that you had to go through all of that in addition to being sick. It’s just not right..

    I had an accident on board and got hurt real bad it’s been 5 months now. They Finally decided to send me for an MRI since I was getting worst, of course the results were way worst than what they’ve diagnosed at the clinic so now I need surgery. And they’re trying to make it as if I’ve had this from before I joined! I really don’t know what to do.. I don’t wanna disclose too much here for obvious reasons, but I would appreciate it if you could send me your contact maybe you can give me some advice. No one is talking to me from management or telling me anything and the Drs at the clinic are trying to protect themselves of course, and I feel like I’m being taken advantage of and manipulated and that no one is on my side.

    I hope you’re better now and that you managed to get over that painful experience.

        Dear Dragana I worked or Dnata as Passenger services Agent for about four years in Erbil. I did a good job, and one day the packed off 20 of us home mentioning about bringing us back. What the annual report of Dnata says is all not true. There is much hidden of what used to happen in Erbil. The management is so rude, and does all nasty things against its staff.

I know that flight crew are insured 24 hrs at any place but, this might be necessary in case you want to proceed for a legal claim. They always have their own reasons so as “not” to pay the insurance and maybe treatment and for that I say that we did the recommended medical test and upon the positive results, we were recruited so, it is not our responsibility if they missed certain type of medical test to be deprived from insurance and/or treatment as in the contract…This is not Emirates Airline ethics and morals! I would definitely agree on seeking another medical opinion and when bad comes to worst -God forbidden- don’t you ever think of doing the surgery in UAE and do it somewhere else this…is my advice! Well, I can only mention that they never wrote in their reports that my brain had bled therefore, I was unfit to fly…it was shown in their “scans” loud and clear so, either they were trying hide it or they didn’t know it and this is the worst part.

    Dragana. Congratulations on exceeding one million visitors to your blog. I am sure EK would have paid you the End of Service benefit and not threatened you with prison if they new the enormous reputational damage that has been caused to them. This blog, I am sure, is read and digested by many people. Regulatory bodies, competitors, potential new-hires and current staff can see the lies and cheap immoral practices that show the true face of the company. High staff turnover, threats, bullying by managers, a culture of constant fear are the daily facts of life, not mentioning fatiguing rosters, racism, coming to work to get a sick letter (and no treatment) to prove that one is sick, denial of medical benefits, out of control CAM’S and shear disrespectful arrogance and hypocrisy are the watchwords. Anyone thinking of joining this company needs to know about this situation. Please read about crew suicides too. Keep Discovering….

    I would like to begin by stating that the company is not entirely full of shit,but there are people who are screwing up the company.
    I began very recently working in the cargo section and trust me from day 1 the harrasment began. In the beginning some of the colleagues begin to be very friendly and nice and try to avail information from you. Helpless as you are, you may spill out 1 or 2 facta about yourself, this is often tranlated into gossip with colleagues from other dept.
    Bullying, harassing ,insulting, oppression are the company’s culture and norms instead of regulating a positive attitude among the new employees.
    Further i discovered that my supervisor, had allready links to the HR Dept and was trying to find out from me what my connection was with the HR and vice versa.
    When she realised thati wasnt in frequent comtact with my HR, She took advantage of the situation and continued harrasing me.
    Being a supervisor, she needed to stand out as a model to the newcomers, but enjoyment trips seemed to be given more importance than checking on the progress of the new comers.
    She also often tried to light fire in our team and create disputes amongst the team members and often spent time gossiping with members of other teams during work hours.
    Everything is rigged from the the beginning to end, the manager and the HR are all hand in gloves and there are their servants like the supervisor who execute their orders, and try to play with peoples minds and manipulate them. BEWARE! !
    Is this the practices EK is about.
    Are these bullshit works of bullying and harassing is what the company is about.
    I pity the future of the company and the employees employed within.

    My suggestion is, if u feel you can deal with the harsh treatment and irrespect metted out by the employees, then this is the place to be.

    Dragana I wanted to thank you for your blog. It is a good initiative to fight back injustice done to so many staff who have worked in Emirates. In fact we are a bunch of college students who have read this blog and shared it with many others who were looking forward to join Emirates. I would be looking now at other airlines and keeping out the gulf airlines from my list. Some of the stories written in this blog are very frightening, but yet sad to see how Emirates has disappointed so many people and the list keeps on and on growing.

      Each one of us have an “expiry” date as a staff in Emirates Airline and to make it longer, staff should OBEY and just obey seniors decisions, not to talk not to discuss and not to speak. Trust me there are more UGLY stories happened for passengers too that make you sick of the way it was handled or solved I share just one, a sick passenger on a stretcher was offloaded 4 times from a flight because the Oxygen regulator was missing! This passenger (an old local lady traveling with her son was suffering from Leukemia) was brought from a hospital on ambulance, checked in from a different boarding gate and through “Lift mobile” was boarded the flight and was brought back to same hospital by following the same way -imagine the torture she faced every time!- When I came on duty after my days off, I received briefings about her from my colleague who was following her case. I met her son after she was offloaded for same reason at the medical center, he was crying and helpless, I told him to go to our SVP M.Mattar and tell him the story and to have his authority as we have another fligt in the afternoon. At the medical center, I found 2 Oxygen Regulators for other sick passengers that didn’t return back yet to the hospital since almost a week, I arranged with the doctor to take them and return them back at night after calling the hospital. Minutes later, my manager called me to go to SVP office as he asked for me, he was shaking and asked me not to mention his name in front of the SVP in anything and to keep him out of trouble!! Once I entered Mr Matter office, I saw our friend there, Mr Mattar asked to briefed him about same and I told him that it was our mistake for not having our own regulators cause every time we asked the hospital to bring theirs with patients. Mr Mattar was so confused then asked me if we can arrange it for tomorrow flight? I told him that everything was arranged for the afternoon flight as the medical center has 2 regulators now however, I suggest that his secretary call the maintenance department to send their staff now to install the stretcher with the regulators so that everything would be ready before the departure and the regulators should come on the same flight “care of Captain”. Mr Mattar said, I will call their SVP now.

      The problem goes when the top seniors hear a fabricated and different side of a story by seniors however in my opinion, they should be blamed for not hearing the other part and build their decision after hearing one part. Every senior or top senior is trying to hide the fact from the management just to show that he is the one!! Dragana made a huge revolution in showing the management the facts however, she paid a very high price for that but she was able to make a huge change for her colleagues.

    hey Dragana, I sent you email a few months ago, and I don’t know do you use email which you give here, anyway, tnx a lot for all this information, I wanted to apply for this company and after reading all this things-NO WAY! I’m from Serbia, and here people usually don’t have a job, and so many young and educated people are without work, so that is why I wanted to work there, and so many Serbs too. Of course, everyone wants to travel, but the truth is so harsh and it is so so sooo good to know what is the reality.
    Tnx again, and tnx to all commentators who just confirmed everything about this company.

      Mirjana, yes, it is true, everything is true, but that’s not the reason to give up. This job also has good aspects, believe me. Having been there helped me to learn a lot about people, about life in general. I greet Dragana’s effort to establish this blog and many thanks to Dragana. If only I had known for this blog before I went there… Life is difficult, especially for people who fight for themselves and who are on their own, but the show must go on, don’t you agree? In spite of everything I experienced, I stayed the same person I was before working there, but much more careful and clever when it comes to relations with people. I learned how to be twofaced (hypocritical) because some people really deserve to treat them this way, but I didn’t lose humanity within myself and I will never let that happen, and I feel sorry for that kind of people, who enjoy other people’s hardship. They are sick, and there is no such career position and such amount of money that will compensate for the emptiness and evil they represent.

        Yes, I agree with you, but I don’t wanna to try because I know how bad is treatment there! I mean, who cares about money and travelling, when you are all the time under the pression? You can build life’s experience on the other side and in other works, where no one will malteratment you, and where you will be respected.
        I wanted to apply, because in my country (Serbia) it is very difficult to find a job, especially in profession, and because of salary. But, when I twice thought-no way!
        I’m happy, healthy, and I have my calm, no one can use me that in exchange for money! 🙂
        And I will travel anyway (yes, traveling is expensive, but you can effort it if you really want).
        Health and calm DO NOT have a price!

      Well, you can share your story here so that everyone know what kind of power EK managers have!! The problem is that they don’t seem to “at least” investigate even though, we put everything followed by facts and trust me, there are a lot more that makes you feel sick of how those “corrupted” inhuman managers do in their departments.
