Emirates Airline (EK) is all about marketing and perfect image but if you scratch beneath the surface you can find a lot of mistreatment, sufferings, sad or horror employees’ stories and cruel exploitation of expatriates coming to work with this Airline.
What makes the current EK’s human resources crisis unbearable is the fact that Emirates Airline is above any labour law. It means that managers can and will do whatever they want and nobody can stop them.
When you join this company you will sign a contract. This contract is going to be violated many times (you will work more than you agreed and your benefits will be gradually taken away from you) and there is absolutely no one to protect you, your contract or your rights. I’ve checked this fact myself as I went through the whole labour system in Dubai only to get this response from a Government official: “You can complain but it’s useless”. I even went to His Highness Ahmed Bin Saeed AlMaktoum the Chairman of Emirates Airline couple of times but never actually met him as his staff doesn’t allow visits.
20% of all Emirates cabin crew resigned last year.
Up to the last couple of months EK managers felt strong enough to rule their company with fear and punishment knowing that almost nothing of it will go out to public as they have a habit of punishing staff who write negative facts about them online. This is the reason why they have threatened me with a prison as well. Writing this blog has been a huge challenge for me. I get a lot of “please don’t stop writing” e-mails so I continue to write as this blog became one of the few voices of disempowered Emirates Airline employees.
Besides this blog there are two other websites:
1. Update from Tom – a blog of former Senior Vice President of Emirates Group IT department. The seriousness of this managerial title gives this blog the highest relevance among all of the virtual places to get to know the truth about EK management as it is written by the managerial insider.
2. Emirates Illuminati – a website of a huge group of Emirates employees – organized resistance against managerial oppresion, who are not to be mistaken for a union, since unions are forbidden in UAE. This website is blocked in UAE.
A question about bad working conditions in Emirates Airline on a professional pilots network.
You will be led to believe that Emirates Airline is a modern and multicultural company which treats its employees like gold. You will be told at your trainings that “we are the best in the world, so if we have chosen you to work for us it means you are the best as well”. Once you actually start working you will feel all the incapability and greediness of your managers on your back. You will be ruthlessly treated as a number, forced to be passengers’ and managers’ servant and if you don’t obey in any way you will be bullied, harassed and forced to resign.
It is very hard to describe poisonous and negative atmosphere which is waiting for you once you begin with your work. You will be reported for a small mistake or for no reason at all, back-stabbed, disrespected and humiliated. And if you are young and inexperienced, you are likely to lose your self-confidence and a sense of a personal value.
The point of this masquerade is to keep attracting new people to replace old, resigned, terminated, sick and unmotivated ones. EK management is very aware of the process it’s just that they are lying to the public and instead telling them the truth – that they desperately need 11.000 new staff to replace those who massively resigned in the couple of last months, they will tell you that they are “expanding their business and fleet” and that they are “becoming more powerful and successful”. Besides lying to potential new joiners they are also lying to themselves as the company is seriously shaken from the inside.
But if you read this article, which aims to attract new group of unsuspecting future staff, you can conclude that it reveals more than Emirates Airline managers want to reveal.

For example:
if there are 20 new aircrafts, and one aircraft needs 80 cabin crew for service, Emirates Airline needs only 1600 new cabin crew this year (20×80). So why this article announces around 5500 new cabin crew this year? It’s 3900 crew more than they need (5500-1600)!
There is around 19.000 cabin crew in Emirates Airline currently. 3900 is simply a number of crew that they have lost last year and that they have to replace urgently. In percentages it is 20% of all cabin crew. So, one fifth of cabin crew resigned last year! Does anyone, besides EK managers, really think that 20% of lost cabin crew is a success, especially if we take into consideration that 130 pilots resigned in the past three months?

Why don’t you get a lie and get a job that pays you instead of wasting your time and that of others in slandering a company which employs a majority of happy employees.
unless you were working in a pig farm, which undoubtedly you were before you found out about Emirates, you will find out also that most those that leave and move on take with them a unique way of working and an acumen you would hardly find in any other organization and this would sum up why Emirates is successful and why others are not.
I believe that Emirate is a great chance for anyone who can make it in and stay for some time, it may not be easy, but definitely worth your while if you want to get ahead in life and not waste your time writing nonsense about other people’s lives.

Sadly you are either of low intelligence or brainwashed into believing Emirates is “Great” when infact they dont encourage their emplyees to strive and do well for the company and themselves. Instead they choose to demoralise them at every turn and it starts in training where the trainers are telling them “at emirates, you are never in the right always the wrong no matter what!!!” what kind of encouragement is that to show new recruits, who i very highly doubt came from “pig farms before they found out about emirates” That comment alone shows your lack of intelligence and sheer ignorance. You are the one that needs to “get a life” and maybe open your eyes or at least do some reading on dictators, you might start to recognise some behaviour patterns of your ex employers.

Every flight I go to, most of the crew (95% of them) are unhappy, demotivated, dislike working for EK, fatigued, demoralized, fed up and would like to resign.

This article is absolutely ridicolous. I’m an employee of the airine in subject, rank cabin crew, and i come from a wealthy country in europe. I have to say that no other job could give me such an high salary for the amount of hours worked and the amazing lifestyle we all have. If you chose to be miserable, you will always complaint, no matter how well the company treats you and how good your life is.

The new aircraft that are coming aren’t all additions to the fleet, some are replacements for older Airbus and Boeing types. The company therefore should not need as many extra staff as calculated above. Unless even more are leaving……

I was Emirates crew for nearly 4 years and have now resigned.
I think every point you cover is extremely well written and thorough. You have such a talent in the way that you write and the detail you can produce within writing. We need people like you who aren’t afraid to stand up to whats right, anyone that says otherwise is delusional, not facing reality.
Keep doing what your doing and you are doing such a good job of promoting this awareness and with your words im sure you have helped someone else.

I was with EK for one year. Thank God, that part of my life is over. I did lose my self-confidense and I was depressed for a year. Everything you sad is true, even more. You didnt mention how we were preassured to help passangers with heavy bags, eventohough that wasnt part of our job, and if you hurt your back, you wont get insurance with explanation that you shouldnt have lift bags. There is so many things.. i am not even sure a blog is enough.. someone should write a book so people could completly understand what crew is going through..

Worked as CC for them for 7 months in 2014. Couldn’t take it anymore. I would say that out of those 7 months 10% of the time was amazing, 10% fun, 10% just normal, 10% boring… but 60% a total nightmare. Pay is ridiculous compared to the workload. You get the same than at any low cost airline but working four times as much at the very least. Benefits are not “benefits”, you pay for them with your hard work. Atmosphere on board 90% of the flights could be described as gloomy, fearful, mistrustful… I’m sorry but most of the CC who’ve been there for a long time are totally insane, have lost their minds due to the outrageous rosters and the pressure they face everyday. I seriously doubt they would be able to be back to normal one day… By the way, it would be interesting to write something about the abuse of alcohol, prescription drugs and other substances among the cabin crew and not for recreative purpose but out of desperation.

Just a small correction, the A380 needs around 220 to 230 crew to operate non stop, while a boeing 777 needs around 140 to 150. Anyway the resigning numbers are very high.

That number would be correct in the western world where crew don’t work the same regime as in Emirates.
Apart from a small number of 330’s and340’s, EK only operates 777 and 380. Currently we have around 230 aircraft and about 19000 crew. Do the math yourself.. If you are amazed at this low number of crew per aircraft: it’s because EK work their crew a lot harder then most other airlines.
Using your numbers, EK would need (55×220) 12100 crew to operate its 56 A380’s. And then we still have more then 100 B777’s to crew.
So please, don’t compate EK crewing to what you are used to. Around 80 crew per aircraft on average sounds correct.

Actually a/c depending on actual crewing levels require 1 crew operating 1 crew downroute 1 crew operating return 1 crew on leave /maternity and 1 crew covering sickness levels so assuming 22 crew on an A380 then that equates to 110 crew …that from ex scheduler !!!

I just wanted to say that the pilots support you Dragana. I feel just as bad for the cc as I do for the ground staff at Emirates. No individual should be dehumanized and subjected to the lack of professionalism by management.
In my flight briefings, I always mention to treat each other with respect and kindness. It’s sad that I have to instill a culture of mutual respect when EK counteracts it with the notion of fear and threats. On a recent flight, one of the GR1s was injured when she slipped in the galley. Although both myself and the purser indicated that she slipped in our reports, the company blamed her for not following policy. She was out for a month and a half without pay. She is fighting for back pay but unfortunately the cabin crew manager still blames her without ever asking anyone of us who witnessed the incident.
It’s the small things such as this that verifies this blog and the lack of integrity at Emirates. The Costa drinking management at EK are out of touch with the front line employees.
I sincerely wish that they were held at the same standards as the operating crews.

I was wondering why the hell she has so much time calling, sending emails for every single little damn things! And yes! Phone call on my rest day in the morning while I was sleeping as well !!! When I didn’t have her as my manager, my life with EK wasn’t too bad but now she really made me want to leave !! She made me feel like every single thing I do is always wrong! Ah, the lovely Michelle, yes. The woman with probably one of the most strident voices in excistance. She’s one of these persons who are absolute nothing back home, which in her case would be South Africa, but absolutely love being on a power trip in Emirates and making the excistance of everyone else an utter hell.
The purpose of a manager is to manage and support their staff, not demotivate them for pure pleasure. I hope you are reading this, Michelle, and learn from it so that you can become a better manager. Give your crew a bit of slack. Or, even better, do everyone a favour and resign and go home. You’re in a position in which you shouldn’t be in and you have been in Emirates far too long.

After a few years, I would like to contribute to this part. She was my manager and it was an unpleasant experience. She made me feel like I wasn’t good at my job when I met her and it really dampened my spirit when I was giving my all at my role. One thing that bugged me is that, she doesn’t get back to my email promptly. She always claimed she’s busy and she can take up to 2 weeks to reply back to me. She doesn’t seem to manage her time well at all. The only manager I experienced that doesn’t get back to you on time and tells you don’t email her unless its urgent.

I have been flying as CC for 7 years and have recently joined Emirates. I gave up a lot to be here and in the 6 months so far, I have to agree. The company is run purely by fear – and the workload is ridiculously high. 8 economy Cabin Crew to cater to the needs of 440 economy passengers on an A380 is outrageous. You work tirelessly only to be nitpicked by not only management, but also your seniors onboard. Your experience and skills count for absolutely nothing and if you don’t do as you are told, regardless, you will be reported.

I still work for EK as cabin crew, all i can say is that I agree with this blog 100%. But the fear installed in me by the company, prevents me from writing what i really think of it as I am scared I might get fired like many before me for posting things on facebook etc…. please keep this blog alive.

I have worked for several airlines and currently with an european low cost one. It’s not like that either. Turnover is minimal to nonexistent in most of the airlines and the vast majority of the staff is in love with the job. This problem seems to only happen at middle east carriers. By the way, I cannot understand why this people put up with all that &%$%/ being the pay too damn low. If they do it just to show off on Facebook and impress people back home I’m sorry but I don’t feel sorry for them.

I had been flying for Singapore Airlines for 17 years now as a CC. Best decision I had made in life was to join SQ. Its a wonderful company, and of course, it has its own share of shortcomings, but the working environment is good and fair, with a good amount of staff welfare.

Nina smith is even worse! I heard she tried to skrew up a local crew who had a very lean record in 9 years and issue him a warning based on nothing, instead he went viral and reached to the sheikhs office. Instead she got downgraded and got a final warning. Kudos for him, he has the passport!

Fact: by the end of 2013, in an internal newsletter at Emirates training college, emirates training college bragged about training nearly 7000 new cabin crew. However the overall number of cabin crew grew by only 2000. Do the math… 5000 a in crew resigned that year! That should be a good enough indication about the working environment. It’s a shame it came to this.

Over the past few months I have been reading your blog and I confess that I have been in love because it is very informative. But, just today I had the courage to leave a comment.
I would like to say that the recruiters of the emirates are very but very bad people. A few years ago in my final interview, the recruiters burst out laughing in front of me to comment and yelling at me.
They were even, but very, very poorly educated and I was very shocked! Of course then I got angry and this was noticed in my facial expression.
I thank God for not having gone to work with them because I met many of the emirates host who told me not to go to work with them and get another job.
It’s horrible when a person gets a bad company image in the first interview. It’s just horrible! I confess that I left the interview feeling very badly, thinking that I was the most horrible person in the world.
Since then, I never wanted to work with them. I also have friends who are currently working with them and they will present their resignation letter.
I would like to say that I feel very bad when I see photos of some girls on facebook saying that working for the emirates is a paradise, when everyone knows that it is not and that often these or some of girls themselves are abused.
Continue with the good work.I wish all the best to you and to all the host of the emirates that have been abused. Do not give up and never forget that first is our health and our well being!

Emirates is behaving like people should be lucky to work for them but they forget that company is nothing without its people. I do not understand how the company has not yet taken any action to improve the working conditions of the company and continues to ignore the constants complaints of employees.
They should take advantage of the excellent work you have done for free for them. 😀 They should learn something. It’s insane!
They have to treat their employees with humanity! We are human! It’s really a shame that there are no associations to help workers who are exploited in Dubai!

I had the same experience in my final interview, she ripped me to shreds and made me feel like an idiot. She also questioned every single thing I said to the point that I felt I wasn’t being interviewed any more, more like interrogated. When I left I felt so horrible, I was like “worst interview ever”
So I got the golden call and they have offered me employment. I have a week to accept… I’m 28 with a university degree and have lived in other countries. I want to experience the destinations I travel to, but everything I read doesn’t seem good.
Some CC tell me to take the job it’s great and I will regret it if I don’t try. I believe in human rights and dignity, I believe in equality and for standing up for what I believe in. I am unsure if this would be a good position for me….

Sorry to hear about what sounds like a typical emirates robot on the usual power trip. That type of character you had to experince at the interview are ten a penny in Dubai. As far as my advice on what you should do….all im going to say is Emirates sell you the idea of the job being basically a dream, fly around the world and stay in lovely hotels and get paid for it plus all the benefits of discounted flights….correct? thats what i was sold anyway!! The reality of it is, once you are in Dubai they start to reveal the real job. It all started in training for me personally, or if i think back even the first few days when you step off that plane and into induction week. The trainers themselves are unhappy, they may not say so in as many words but if you listen carefully its almost like they are trying to tell you someting. They give it away with so many little comments and personal stories and then you start to detect a serious chip on their shoulder almost every time they speak. I even had one trainer comment on the fact i was in the line at the college costa “you do realise you are giving money to your employer by buying that costa (emirates happen to own costa) ,pfffft!! i buy the cheap one” that was just a small insight into the way the the current employees think of their company. They also dont tell you at interview about the lack of rest crew are getting or the fact you now need to “confirm sickness” by travelling to the clinic at HQ everday that you need to call sick ….no matter what!! They also drum it into you at every stage of induction that they will charge you for anything they deem fit and just take it out of your salary each month. You will hear the sentence “There will also be a charge for that” at least 100 times during induction/training. If you do decide to take the job, within days you will notice the frustration of the current cabin crew you see on the crew buses…90% look miserable all the time and some like to show it by being rude to you or each other or just anyone in general. Emirates in my opinion is not a safe or friendly airline to work for and would never advise any friends to apply. Its sad because so many like i was are taken in with the lure of living in Dubai and thinking how fabulous a lifestyle they could have. Its all FAKE!! once you get there you start to realise the company is all smoke and mirrors, not any real substance you would expect from a so called leading airline. They have the biggest and newest fleet in the world….True!! however i have a theory on that. I believe they replace the aircrafts so frequently because they know 1. the cabin crews safety training is a joke as it so rushed its unbelievable so they try to cover themselves by having new planes thinking less chance of disaster. 2. If the reports of the pilots being under pressure and working the max amount of legal hours, god knows how the engineers are being treated! Are the A/Cs being maintained properly!? who knows. Emirates are heading for disaster….they know it too but i think they are so far down this path that even they dont know the way back. Anyway good luck with what you do eventually decide upon (let us know 🙂 )please dont think this was to scare you….its simply the TRUTH something emirates will never give you. All the best 🙂

Shania is bad to say this: but it is good to know that I was not the only one to feel this bad atmosphere during the interview. I felt that they made me dumb. I felt really down.
It is normal that in job interviews, interviewers are serious because they want to test and learn more about us, but the emirates recruiters abuse. They are rude and bad!
I’m 27 years old and I have a master’s degree and I feel I do not intend to spend my gray cellules with this company!
Ohhh Shania, how I understand you my “friend.” The world is big and we have to meet him. It is simply fantastic to know other countries and cultures. We learn to grow up and to give meaning to our lives! It is divine.
What I can tell you is this: you can accept the job offer and work with them for a few months or years, if you can endure…and then if you not like it, you can submit the letter of resignation. This is what many Portuguese girls have done.
Emirates think they are smart, but they are not! Many Portuguese girls go there to try and then present the letter of resignation and return to Portugal to compete for the Portuguese company TAP or other European companies. We can use them too! 😀
You already know how emirates treats employees. If you accept to go to Dubai, you will already informed.

From my own experience, the interview went very good, and the recruiter was very nice and we spent a hour and half discussing together. I went through this just by curiosity, my ambition has never been to be a steward… but I got to love the idea when i’m unemployed in my home country and this can open some doors thereafter…
I am fully aware and I reject all the inhumanity that resides there, and I will fight for that, believe me. if they are not happy, I will push them to fire, I’ll never resign, that is what they want at the end if they treat you like “animals”.
Thanks for your support, I’m trying to contact them to have further details on all these contract flaws.

Shania, i really do think you have made the right decison. I am still going through alot of trouble since i left emirates. I plan on sending the full story to Dragana when it all comes to end so she can expose it on here. Dont look back, you would have gained very little from this company had you accepted the position, all there is to gain from emirates is heartbreak and lose of money. I know of sveral cabin crew who have just walked away without resigning this past month because they have seen how bad things are.

I’m very scared to read all these articles and comments…It is sad that such a great airline is going through so many problems right now and demotivating their cabin crew like this!
I’m going through the recruitment process and next saturday I’m attending the assesment day, I was willing to get the job but now I’m starting to panic . I’ve been a cabin crew for a brazilian airline for 5 years but last year they were firing a lot of people and it happened to me as well… Now I’m running outta money and if I don’t get this job it’s gonna be hard for me, I’m living with my parents in my hometown and we have no good job offers around here, and the airlines seem to be in a period where they’re not hiring anyone, and I think they’re not hiring any time soon… So it kinda makes me shiver to think that if I go maybe it’ll be bad (if I get the job, of course! I still hava two stages of the process to go through) and if I stay, it’ll be worse, with no money and no job (and my parents pressuring me).
Could anyone answer me 2 things?
WHAT ABOUT THE SALARY?
Is it ok? Will I be able to save some money so that when I return home I will have some to live while I don’t get another job? Is the money you get enough to live in dubai, buy some stuff and save some cash?
HOW AND WHY DO THEY TAKE YOUR BENEFITS AWAY? WHICH BENEFITS?
WHEN YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE DOCTOR (MAYBE NOT FOR SICKNESS, JUST FOR A CHECK UP OR SOMETHING) ARE YOU ABLE TO BOOK IT EASILY AT THE EK MEDICAL CENTRE? IF I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT IN DUBAI, IS IT VERY EXPENSIVE?
I worry a lot about my health and if I feel there’s something wrong with my body or that it’s time to have a check up , I will! So I’d like to know if the ek medical centre will supply my needs.
Basically, that’s it.
I know that every company has its problems, believe me, when I flew for this brazilian airline there were people who complained as much as you do…the managemente was terrible as well, they made us scared, they threatened us, our rosters changed all the time, there were several delays, we got exhausted… But anyway I chose to face it the best way I could and be thankful for my job, cause the salary was really good compared to other jobs I’ve had that were totally boring, with a killing routine, I had to work from monday to saturday and didn’t get the third part of the money I got as a cabin crew….so…If I can do this at ek, save some money and have some experiences, I’m ok. But I need to know about the salary first… cause few of my friends who have flown for emirates were able to save money, and I don’t understand if it was because they chose to spend it as if there was no tomorrow or because the money was short…

I am brazlian as well and I have worked for EK for 3 years and now Im a cabin crew in Brazil. I confirm all the bad comments I read in this blog.
85% of the time I was REALLY unhappy in Dubai! I only had 2 hours rest in the a380 on a 14 hours flight. The workload is really really heavy! But I guess if you are unemployed in Brazil you should try and save some money there and come back with a plan !

You are in for a bit of a roller coaster ride. Congratulations on getting through the first phase and wish you luck through the next few phases. It appears add though you might need really need the job. Just please don’t let anyone take advantage of you. I know many people who save on the wage ek provides. Your salary is mainly dependant on how much you fly which shouldn’t be a problem cause you will fly like a dog. You base salary will be around 4 – 5k aed. And the flying pay week double it “roughly”. Both your base salary and flying pay will increase with upgrades that come around after you have done your time in grade. Not to mention the slowly diminishing layover allowance.
As for the clinic they are understaffed too and although they have a little pharmacy they mainly dispense panadol as their sponsored drug of choice. While there are couple of good doctors out there, not many people trust their judgement. I myself like to get a proper diagnoses from either a referral or my doctors back home.

Hello,
Basically they run the company by fear! I got my contract terminated before I end my probation period with 4 days because I didn’t accept a feedback which was I refused to take a second clearance cart asking for a bar cart! This after doing 2 meal carts 2 clearance carts and double ending a bar and on our way back from chennai I did 2 meal carts 1 clearance and the 2nd clearance is the issue about it!

Are we working for the same company?? or is this the reality for A380 crew who dont fly turnarounds??
I am a grade 1 (business class crew) and my average monthly salary is around 8000 – 8500 aed. I am a main fleet – and my roster consists of many many turnarounds. Some months I get max 2 layovers, the rest is from 5 to 7 turnaround flights.
8500-11000 for an economy crew?? I am truly at awe!

I flew with Emirates several weeks ago. I sadly believed the hype. Never again. I found the crew rude and now I know why. It was a dreadful experience from start to finish. I’ve put this blog on LinkedIn on all their fabulous marketing posts on new aircraft, routes etc. It’s a $$$ making deceitful racket. Disgusting to see how their staff are treated. Well, I have worked with Emirates as a ground handling agent for more than one year, and I got hired by Emirates after, as ground staff.
I would have to admit that what the company gives is really good in comparison to any other airlines. The company offers very good medical, high salary, and good flight benefits. I do like the image/standard that Emirates tries to present. I really have no problem with what the company gives us. However, I am reading all these posts above as I am considering to resign from my position.
I’m still on my third month of probation, and to be honest, I already want to give up. Emirates is so tough to the point that I am really breaking down.
I have worked with other airlines in the past, but I would say that Emirates is the one that has caused my life twirling endlessly. Not to mention that our passengers are very tough to deal with, we constantly receive e-mails from Customer Relations regarding to passengers complaining about us. I have no idea how many e-mails I have written back to Customer Relations within the last month. Our passenger complain about ANYTHING and make up stories about you if you don’t give them what they think they deserve. Ever since the day I had to face 300+ passengers yelling at me and calling me names due to a flight delay, I started to have second thoughts about my job. Yes, I do receive very good salary and benefits from Emirates, but I questioned myself a lot if I look at benefits as priority, or my health to come first.
I have been given very messed up shifts. Imagine dealing with a tough flight for 8 hours, then you get home and sleep for only 4 hours, and wake up and get to work another tough operation everyday, would you still think the salary you are getting worths more than getting enough sleep and having time to socialized?! Would you still want to have some time to enjoy yourself other than only working and still having nightmares about work in your sleep?
I got hired because there was a new flight coming into the city. At first, the company promised that there will be a group of agents focusing on the first flight, the other on the second flight. However, as soon as the new flight arrived, we each have to do the workload of 3 people! I have to prepare for 2 flights both arrival and departure within 2 hours! Not to mention that the preparation for each flight has many many procedures. I am working overtime every night because of the workload. And after that, i have to rush home, skip dinner, and sleep for 4 hours until my next shift. I dont get to hang out with my family for more than 2 hours a day, and I dont get to see my friends for a month already.
I have been waking up very depressed lately to the point that i am taking sleeping pills to help me sleep as my sleeping schedule is already messed up. And I have been spending a couple of weeks thinking about quitting. However, I am still concerned because I’m on my last month of my probation. I really don’t know how to bring this up to my SAS, and how badly it would affect my work history/resume…
Well, I would still rather make less than having such complicated life.

Somebody please respond asap.. as I was very much looking forward to working with Emirates, and even applied for 2-3 positions. Although I am having second thoughts on working with them after reading this blog.
How is the working conditions in their offices, I mean for roles like Admin, Junior HR etc? I am not intending to apply for cabin crew position, therefore I would like to know how the office conditions and atmosphere is.

Most of the airline operations positions are tough, otherwise office regular shift positions are pretty OK.
One is provided with an accommodation allowance which would be part of your total monthly income.
Benefits totally depend on the position you apply for and the grade for that position but generally are your monthly salary which includes the accommodation allowance, medical insurance , discounted tickets,paid annual ticket, 30 days paid leave and end of service gratuity
Staff in office positions do not get accommodation automatically especially in the entry level positions.

Hi guys, i have been doing the pre-employment requirements and they are pretty stressful with all their lengthy requirements.
All along i have been given the impression that this is a lifetime’s opportunity but after reading this blog i am shocked at the unfair treatment you’re all complaining about. Is it possible that they would be making us do all these lengthy procedures to get us into the company to then treat us like dogs?
To be honest i am now terrified of the experience, i thought it would be thee best thing i have ever done.

Admin: I have read all the message and posts in this blog! Well, this is not the only case with the Airline. I was with Dnata and its the same cheap management run by some few westers….( sorry guys i have no bad feelings with westerners they are like us…flesh and blood) I think the local top management cannot run it so they get these useless fellows…who have no work in the UK or wherever they come from, So cheap these fellows are, I havent seen in my entire career such cheap fellows- there are some DSVP’s and VP’s so cheap they can get to any low level, yet they will be dressed in a suit and talk some high funda language. The problems in Dnata are also the same. First of all we see a big difference between how emirates staff and managers are treated and how the same dnata staff and managers are treated. They same Emirates management treats Dnata…Isnt it part of the group anyway. leave that aside. The worst thing is that no one wants to stay with dnata. The management is so bull shit. They do a lot of illegal things in other countries, make all wrong decisions and just get away.In a nutshell the whole emirates group is a messy place, people issues are mounting and its getting a very bad name in the labor market worldwide. So if Emirates has these issues its also the same or worse with Dnata.

I had an interview for the cabin crew position just a few months ago, got brushed off on the last assignment, was very surprised cause never in my life before I was rejected after the interview, I’ve even got selected by Qatar airways. Honestly I was very upset, it was a big goal of mine to join the company as cabin crew. Several of my good friends have been or still working there and most of the reviews were positive, which is why I’m super confused after reading this blog, such mixed feelings…
My friends are sincerely satisfied and recommended to join the company, they couldn’t be high all together, could they? At the same time the author isn’t the only one who’s unhappy with the company’s policy.
If the described situation is what’s actually going on currently, then I can only thank God I didn’t get selected and I wish all the best to the author of this blog, keep it going.

I resigned 9 months ago from Emirates–best decision I made! Some of the seniors (sfs,pursers, managers) I have encountered are just plain rude, power tripping and love to report/ write to your manager about every little thing. They nit pick and u really have no voice in this company. I think it stems from the higher management and the rest feel the heat and it’s a trickle down effect on us cabin crew. It’s depressing as hell working for emirates. It’s like selling your soul and happiness just to travel. I would battle with that all the time. And then the way some passengers are on board is another story. Disgusting. Nasty. Untamed animals is the best way to describe them. The high turn over rate speaks for itself. Most crew are depressed and a lot of them vent their frustrations with the company and the job. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be. I was so excited when I first joined. That excitement and motivation died as soon as I realized what the company was really like.

Apple on Thursday released a security update to block spyware used to target an Emirati human rights activist which security experts say was developed by an Israeli “cyber-war” company.
Three flaws in Apple’s iPhone software were discovered by security researchers Citizen Lab and Lookout after lawyer Ahmed Mansoor alerted them to several text messages he had received on 10 and 11 August promising to reveal details of torture victims in the UAE if he followed links in the message.
The links would have installed spyware which would have made the phone “a digital spy in his pocket,” Bill Marczak and John Scott-Railton, senior researchers at Citizen Lab, wrote in an extensive account of their investigation into the attempt to hack into Mansoor’s phone.
“Once infected, Mansoor’s phone would have become a digital spy in his pocket, capable of employing his iPhone’s camera and microphone to snoop on activity in the vicinity of the device, recording his WhatsApp and Viber calls, logging messages sent in mobile chat apps, and tracking his movements,” they wrote.
“The attack on Mansoor is further evidence that ‘lawful intercept’ spyware has significant abuse potential, and that some governments cannot resist the temptation to use such tools against political opponents, journalists, and human rights defenders.”
The researchers said they believed the spyware had been created by NSO Group, an Israel-based company which has developed a government-exclusive “lawful intercept” spyware program called Pegasus. NSO Group is owned by a US venture capital firm, Francisco Partners Management.
A spokesperson for NSO Group told the Haaretz newspaper that the company could not confirm specific cases and said the company sold within export laws to government agencies which then operated the software.
“The agreements signed with the company’s customers require that the company’s products only be used in a lawful manner,” he said. “Specifically, the products may only be used for the prevention and investigation of crimes.”
Earlier this year Middle East Eye journalist Rori Donaghy described how he had been among more than 1,000 journalists and dissidents targeted in an attempt by the UAE to install spyware on their phones.
But Marczak and Scott-Railton said the technical sophistication of previous attacks “pales in comparison to the present attack”.
Mansoor is a prominent dissident in the UAE and last year won the Martin Ennals award, named after the former secretary general of Amnesty International, which has been described as the Nobel Prize for human rights.
Apple said in a statement: “We were made aware of this vulnerability and immediately fixed it with iOS 9.3.5. We advise all of our customers to always download the latest version of iOS to protect themselves against potential security exploits.”

I have worked for EK for 3 years before moving back to NZ. At the time I was annoyed at everything what you’ve described above. Now 10 years later I look back and see those days in a good light. All what I’ve learnt while living in the UAE will be with me for the rest of my life. I find it unbelievable that some of you may tell people not to join EK (despite the stupidity of management) I agree that they are tough, yet for most, living in such different culture and getting paid to travel the world is something I could not possibly tell people to refrain from doing. Definitely join EK, see the world and leave.

Molto. There are now no more jobs at EK for crew. The situation now is very different. EK are in REAL trouble. Don’t forget the TWO crashes, redundancies, Trump and their own arrogance.

Hi Admin, You are doing a great job. Saying about the truth. Staff is screwed by the management. The staff doesn’t open their mouth because of family support reasons and most of are suffering from loan clearance. As this is the reason staff has to suffer and continue up to many years also. You are very much right no human rights. HR is useless. A contract is always violated. The movement you open your mouth you will be in the bad book and then Asta Lavista Baby. Your trail begins. Those who are in the good book are promoted very quickly. Racism is happening till now.The company is good but only bad fishes on higher positions had been recruited and they are the one spoiling the sea. As per the company, i think benefits are pretty much good but management doesn’t allow to reach it to the staff.

I forgot to mentioned. A good book is. Polishing your management by back biting your colleagues. I am glad at least some one took a step.
